Party in the paddock is the way to go for may racing fans

The Breeders’ Cup World Championships wrapped another fun filled day of racing at Churchill Downs Saturday, bringing folks of all ages to the track to “unofficially” kick off the fall meet.  Breeders’ Cup stands alone and cannot be compared to another horse racing event in the world.  Horses and their entourages arrived in Louisville with high expectations and knew the world was watching.  In Louisville, a major racing event such as the Kentucky Oaks and Derby may be the closest thing to compare with Breeders’ Cup; expecting the fashion and party atmosphere seen in spring.

Saturday was all business for the horsemen while local residents took the opening of Churchill to mean a great time of placing bets, handicapping, jockeying for parking, and enjoying the ambiance of Churchill Downs.  The paddock is an amazing place to watch the races complete with food, beverages, wagering, and a up close view of the horses, trainers, owners, and jockeys prior to race time.

The section of paved bricks is one of the best places to mingle with friends over a cocktail.  Many racing fans find the paddock preferable to sitting in the grandstands.  Seating in the paddock is limited, although two lush areas have cushioned chairs and couches beneath an open wood structure.  The entrance to the actual paddock is closely guarded, yet fans can catch a glimpse of well known horsemen entering and exiting the area.  With the fall meet beginning in the coming weeks at Churchill, a few moments in the outdoor party area could give new perspective to your betting choices!
