Everything you always wanted to know about the 4th of July, but were afraid to ask [The Arena]

There is absolutely no historical evidence that King George, when told by Lord North that the American colonists were revolting, said: "They soitnly are!"

On July 3, 1776, John Adams wrote a letter to his wife Abigail, in which he predicted:  “The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty.

How to mix Red, White, and Blue the stylish way Part 1 of 3 [Fashion]

It's possible to celebrate your country's colors this 4th of July without wearing a red, white, and blue flag t-shirt. Here's how!

I headed over to Apricot Lane Boutique in Westport Village this afternoon to see if I could find something fabulous and festive to wear this weekend. I was in luck! I found a navy blue maxi skirt paired with a simple white tank, and then added a bunch of red accessories.

This entire outfit costs under $200! U-S-A!!

Fourth of July Pagan Campout

Biggest bang for your buck [Fourth of July]

We tell you where to find the most explosive fireworks on a budget.

You may have noticed a difference between what you can buy on the Kentucky side of the river (essentially sparklers and noisemakers) versus what you can buy on the Indiana side (mortars that would put a Guerrilla insurrection to shame.) There's a huge difference between what's legal in each state. This is why I recommend all fireworks loving people visit their friends in Indiana for the 4th of July.

Freedom pesto! Fourth of July is the new basil season, courtesy of Downy Mildew [Fitness and health]

It's about time to use your fresh basil, if it's still healthy. Basil Downy Mildew has spread across the country, and your basil may be at risk.

It's a pandemic threatening to induce basil grinding and pesto-making from coast to coast--Downy Mildew--and it's right here in Louisville. As downy soft as it may sound, your sweet basil is at risk, because my dear sweet basil was already stricken with the blight.

Fireworks are legal in Kentucky? [Louisville newbie]

Growing up in New York, I always thought all fireworks were illegal everywhere. A trip to Costco in Louisville has me stand corrected.
