This past Saturday, the Alley Theater returned for part two of its live rendition of the BBC’s Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy radio drama. Four actors performed the lines, sounds, and background action into set up microphones, mimicking a recording studio in the 1970’s. Given such good material, the show predictably exhibited all the charm and playfulness of Douglas Adam’s words with some lively performances.
"In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move." -Douglass Adams
If the Mayans were correct, this show could be of the utmost importance. At least, it'll be an entertaining evening when Alley Theater presents Some Things You Need to Know Before the World Ends starting on Thursday.
Some Things will take place on Dec. 29, 30, Jan. 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21 at 7:30 p.m. each night. All performances will take place at the Alley Theater, located in The Pointe at 1205 E. Washington Street in the Butchertown section of Louisville.
The Alley Theater once again amazes me with their creative talent for "making do". During Matrix Live! (A Parody), there is ONE piece of scenery on the stage for the entire play, and that is a large chair. It reminds me of t-shirts we had in our high school theater department:
The "Wachowski Brothers" have seen soaring highs and dreadful lows during their search for "the one" to play the role of Neo. Will they find him in Louisville? They hope to at Alley Theater.
