Moscow State Symphony Orchestra delights Louisville audience [Louisvile newbie]

Although it was dreary and raining outside, the atmosphere inside the Kentucky Center was abuzz with excitement for this once in a lifetime event.

Last Sat., Nov. 13, the world-renowned Moscow State Symphony Orchestra swung through Louisville during a nationwide tour to play a special engagement at the Kentucky Center's Whitney Hall. Conducted by the legendary Pavel Kogan, the orchestra played selections by Tchaikovsky, Grieg, and Mussorgsky. Although it was dreary and raining outside, the atmosphere inside the Kentucky Center was abuzz with excitement for this once-in-a-lifetime event.

Spring Awakening opens at Kentucky Center

Spring Awakening, the 8-time Tony Award® winning Broadway musical, opens tonight at the Kentucky Center and plays for 8 performances only running through June 7. Spring Awakening swept the 2007 Tony Awards® winning eight out of its eleven nominations, including Best Musical, Best Director (Michael Mayer), Best Book (Steven Sater), Best Choreography (Bill T. Jones), Best Orchestrations (Duncan Sheik), Best Lighting Design (Kevin Adams), Best Featured Actor (John Gallagher Jr.).

Dashboard Confessional ready to rock with the Louisville Orchestra

The latest BB&T "Strings Attached" show follows the theme of hip, rockin', and different from what most expect from an orchestra. Tickets on sale May 29th.

On Saturday, November 7 at 8pm in Kentucky Center’s Whitney Hall, the Louisville Orchestra presents the first of its 2009-10 BB&T Strings Attached concerts –Dashboard Confessional.  Tickets, for what’s sure to be a sold out event, are available to the public starting May 29. Alternative rockers from Boca Raton, Dashboard Confessional take a step away from their college tour to join the Louisville Orchestra for one night only.  This will be the band’s first experience performing with full orchestration.

Ordered chaos appears downtown

Taking a trip through the city streets can be harrowing during the height of traffic, but chaos? Not quite. The real maelstrom is appearing at the cooler-than-cool Vonfire Gallery at Glassworks.
Glassworks is pleased to announce the next show in the VONFIRE Gallery, “Ordered Chaos”, running August 1-30. The show features drawings by Skylar Smith and new works in response to Skylar’s drawings by Glassworks Artists: Chad Balster, Casey Hyland, Clair Raabe, and Jonathan Swanz.

Kentucky Shakespeare Festival celebrates 48th season

Kentucky Shakespeare Festival will perform Julius Ceasar and Pericles this summer and will add “Family Week,” “Speaker Series,” and “Group Nights,” to its annual Festival events.
Kentucky Shakespeare Festival announces its 48th season of “Free Will” in Old Louisville’s Central Park with the expansion to two professional shows, Julius Caesar and Pericles. Julius Caesar is directed this year by Director of Education, Pamela Di Pasquale. Directing Pericles in his final year as Producing Artistic Director is Curt L. Toftland.
