Derby Eve Festivities [Chic Geek]

The Class and Trash of Derby Eve

With so many fabulous Derby eve events to attend, a fashionista has to make some tough choices.  This year I decided to attend the 24th Annual Barnstable Brown Gala and the first Unbrideled Eve party.  Both events were star studded and full of fashion finds and crimes. I’d have to say from a collective sum Barnstable Brown Gala had some of the best dressed guests however both events were a fabulous way to spend the night before Derby.

How does it feel: Crashing the Barnstable Brown Gala [Kentucky Derby]

To my recollection, high school prom was not the magical night many girls dream of. No, for me, the excitement and giddiness that prom spurs for most, was reserved instead for another evening: the Barnstable Brown Gala during Derby Weekend 2003.

The Barnstable Brown Gala was decadent and depraved (well, the front lawn was anyway)

At first it seemed the party planner's research into how stars like to throw down consisted solely of watching Billy Madison's second grade graduation party.
My wife, our common-law sister-in-law, my Heine Brothers travel mug with Maker's Mark on the rocks and I headed down the block to watch guests arrive at the Barnstable Brown Gala--my first chance to check out the wonder that is Derby's most famous party. And wonder is right--it was a white trash wonderland. Celebrity guests I didn't recognize pulled up onto the red carpet for interviews before having to walk through a craptacular gauntlet toward the house.
