Brigid Kaelin is doing it again. Yep, the little red-headed darling songstress from Louisville’s original music scene is making her annual pilgrimage across the pond to Scotland. But this time for more of an extended stay while her husband attends graduate school in Scotland’s capital of Edinburgh.

Two ladies, a saw, and a ukulele: Nellie McKay and Brigid Kaelin treat the winter blahs at Headliners [Music]

Nellie McKay and Brigid Kaelin warm up Headliners with a night of energetic music and dynamic performances.

Brigid Kaelin opened Tuesday night for Nellie McKay at Headliner's Music Hall, and you would be hard pressed to find two musicians who bring quite as much personal charm, humor, and unique character to the stage. In the midst of a long, cold, mucky winter, it was the kind of show that puts a little color and warmth back into the world.

"I don't perform. I'm just me," says pretensionless Michael Young, host of WFPK's Sunday-evening Roots n' Boots show.

The mix tape, Louisville style [Music]

Louisville musicians Scott Carney, Todd Hildreth, and Brigid Kaelin are among those who offer up their thoughts on the art of what makes a mix tape work.
Chances are you have either made a mix tape for someone or received one. When the phrase "mix tape" is uttered, it is understood that it generally means a mix CD these days. Think of it like saying "Coke" to mean "soda." Mix tapes are about flow and feeling not happenstance. The mix tape, like a concept record, should be compiled with its entirety in mind. Even if the theme is bound by a certain moment in time, the song order is critical to its overall effect. And people in Louisville are generally like anyone else when it comes to making the perfect mix tape.

HullabaLOU preview: Brigid Kaelin [Music]

Louisville's own singer-songwriter-accordionista Brigid Kaelin will be playing her smart songs and maybe even a little musical saw at the inaugural HullabaLOU.
Earlier this spring, Brigid Kaelin toured the UK, but on Saturday July 24, you can see her once again home in Louisville as she plays the HullabaLOU music festival at Churchill Downs. Music fans familiar with the local music scene know Kaelin well. In fact, a couple years ago, she landed at Number 33 in WFPK's "Greatest Artists of All Time Countdown." Music fans outside of town, may know her from the USA Network's Nashville Star, where she was a finalist in 2007.

Kentucky Derby Museum's launch party is this Sunday! [Family and parenting]

Just in time for the 2010 Derby Festival kick-off, the Kentucky Derby Museum is ready to reopen its doors. And to celebrate this triumph, they're having a party...and you're invited!

The flood of August 4th, 2009 left a devastating wake of destruction throughout the Louisville area. And like many Louisvillians, I was upset to learn that one of the most hard-hit locations was the Kentucky Derby Museum.

Shut down ever since the flood, the museum has been painstakingly reconstructing its beloved exhibits ever since. Just in time for the 2010 Derby Festival kick-off, the Kentucky Derby Museum is ready to reopen its doors. And to celebrate this triumph, they're having a party...and you're invited!

HullabaLOU announces new artists: Quantity trumps quality again

New acts like Tonic; Ben Folds; and Blood, Sweat and Tears do nothing to shake up festival's staid lineup.

Not to beat a Barbaro (too soon?), but HullabaLOU's announcement today of artists added to its lineup--including Tonic; Ben Folds; and Blood, Sweat & Tears--does nothing to address earlier criticism that the music festival is stale and safe.
