Keep track of the season's festivities with your guide to Louisville's 2012 Kentucky Derby parties [Horse racing]

The eyes of the nation will be upon Louisville on the first Saturday in May, but the real Derby celebration begins in the weeks leading up to the big race. Use this guide to the multiple Derby-related events taking place in the coming days and plan your own "run for the roses."

The Kentucky Derby has always seemed both an integral part of and wholly separate from Louisville, the town where it has been held annually on the first Saturday in May for almost 140 years. In recent years, scads of Hollywood stars and household celebrities have flocked in growing numbers to the race itself, not to mention its fabulous before-and-after-parties.

Easter Brunch Round Up [Food & Dining]

Think of it as an Easter Egg hunt for adults, but with ham and bloody marys instead of candy.

You know how it goes; every Easter you stand, uncomfortable in a scratchy suit, keeping your greedy paws clasped behind your back in an attempt to stop yourself from stealing candy meant for kids. Little ones in their Easter finery shriek and giggle with chocolate stained faces, chomping jelly beans, and your stomach rumbles through the early service.

Fine dining is expensive, but you only live once.

Since I've been blogging about food and dining, I've been paying a lot more attention to announcements about special dinners and food events. I've come across several free or low-cost events that look great, but the ones that really catch my eye are the ones that cost more than a student/intern/blogger such as myself should spend for a night out. However, if I suddenly found a large sum of extra money deposited into my bank account, I'd spend it on these events:

Five buck wine and tasty tapas for the rest of us at the Brown Hotel lobby bar
It's gratifying knowing that major publications expound on the pleasures of dining at the English Grill; nice knowing that our city has such a noteworthy restaurant. I've never supped myself in the "rarified confines of ... one of the finest restaurants in the nation" (according to Forbes Traveller).
