Bats drop series opener in a close one [Sports]

A player and a coach got thrown out of Friday night's pitching duel. While Edinson Volquez had a strong outing, the Bats lost the home series opener against the Indianapolis Indians 3-2.

Well, the post-game show didn’t provide the only fireworks for the evening at Louisville Slugger Field Friday night. Right fielder Jeremy Hermida was tossed from the game in the 8th inning after arguing a called strike. When Hermida was ejected, the 3rd base coach Rick Sweet came to his defense and was also ejected after a long and heated shouting match went on for several minutes.

Hope springs eternal for the Reds in the winter

After the Bengals faded away last weekend, my attention goes back to the hard ball and how the Reds are in first place (for now).
After last week's coup of signing stud Cuban lefty Ardolis Chapman to a 6-year deal, we're all pretty enthused for spring to arrive in Cincinnati. It may be a little early to talk about baseball. After all, we're still staring down the Superbowl and the LOST season premiere. But the Reds are smart and they know that their REAL fans care 12 months out of the year so they bring the winter caravan to town every year to visit the Louisville Slugger Museum and Bat Factory This year's caravan is January 28 from 5:30pm-8pm. Here's the scoop from the Bats press office:

Chris Burke is heading home

The Game 4 hero from the 2005 NLDS gets signed by the Reds to a minor league deal, placing him squarely at our own Louisville Slugger Field.
Chris Burke, the Louisville native who electrified the Houston Astros in the 2005 National League Division Series with an unbelievable home run in the BOTTOM OF THE 18TH INNING (!) has been signed to a minor league deal by the Reds in an otherwise quiet off season for the team. The St. X graduate is making his latest move after stints in Texas, Houston, Arizona, San Diego, and Atlanta. He's most likely to play the role of utility journeyman due to his experience at playing most positions on the field, save for pitcher and catcher.
