In spirit of The Great Escape Artist, Louisville’s Palace Theater was a fitting venue for the theatrical performance by Jane's Addiction last night. Accompanied by eccentric stage characters and props, they left no album untouched with a mixed set list to please any fan.
Even during the 90’s, Jane’s Addiction never fit into the raging pool of alternative rock. While it was popular to dress sloppy and embrace heavy distortion in angst-driven, slacker themes, Perry Ferrell preferred to dress in drag. Naturally, it was their showmanship that separated them from the flannel-clad grungies of the decade, a trait that carried over from the late 80s-90s transition.
Van Halen, Rock And Roll Hall of Fame inductees and one of the most important and influential rock bands of all time, are known around the world for some of the most iconic live performances in music history and most importantly, the legendary rock band will begin their North American tour on Saturday, February 18th at the KFC Yum! However, in his hands this instrument commands the large band of Ngoni Ba as they oversee packed stadiums and festivals across the globe.
The Louisville Palace welcomed the Pixies last night into, according to Kim Deal, the most beautiful venue they’ve ever played. It’s hard not to be slightly overwhelmed being surrounded by its intricate sculptural architecture, pouring with details from walls to ceilings that could be mistaken for a European opera house.
The linear pattern of nostalgia-ready bands reunited and world tour bound continues. But the Pixies have been going at it for seven years. “I can’t even think of the end right now,” guitarist Joey Santiago told me during an interview conducted in September. “But I want to keep going. (Laughs) There’s no reason to quit. ”
