Life is busy. Many of us have to work at least two jobs just to keep up with our finances, and when it comes to mealtimes, it can be very tempting to give into the many convenient alternatives to a home-cooked meal: fast food, frozen dinners, canned noodles.

People tend to have one of two reactions at the mention of the word kohlrabi:

Last month the garden out back was calmly starting up. With the July heat, the patch has gone feral. It's down-right out of control. The cucumbers--they have cried mutiny. A suggestion for those of you with an abundance of veggies? Can it all!

The community behind the Louisville food blog Louisville Hot Bytes will host a chowder-filled fundraiser next month.
The folks over at "Hell's Kitchen" are looking for some fresh meat.
The reality show, which stars Chef Gordon Ramsay at the helm of aforementioned kitchen, will conduct an open casting call in Louisville to find contestants for the ninth season of the program.
The date hasn't been set, according to Fox's website, but here's a little blurb about who the show is looking for:
Chef Edward Lee of 610 Magnolia restaurant will bring his Southern cuisine with a Korean kick to Kitchen Stadium in an upcoming episode of the Food Network show "Iron Chef America."
Food, wine and celebrity chefs will take to the track this weekend as part of the inaugural Fork, Cork & Style event from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Churchill Downs. Restaurants from across the country will offer up regional favorites that have been featured on TV shows from "Man v. Food" to "Saturday Night Live." High-end vintners will pour the good stuff at a grand wine tasting.
