The Drive-By Truckers roll in to Louisville [Music]

The Drive-By Truckers tell their stories of life

As life grows more difficult, the deeper the economy dives, and the hurt cuts harder, the more music is needed. Music is our collective experiences, celebrations and sorrows. The Drive-By Truckers (DBT) http://www.drivebytruckers.com helps deliver these stories and give to the listener new memory paths of sound and soul. The music of DBT will be in Louisville on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Headliners Music Hall http://headlinerslouisville.com.

Weekend events that don't involve a midway [Family and parenting]

Because deep-frying things you don't eat anyway is a bad idea and may lead to slow dancing to cover-bands under giant tents, guzzling draft beer, excessive sweating, cardiac arrest, and flatulence.

Yes, the Fair is in town. Don't get me wrong, I've been known to slam draft beers and ingest giant sausages, then sweat profusely while chicken-dancing under a giant tent on the midway with the best of them, but there is something about the allure that of the KY State Fair that just doesn't do it for me anymore. Maybe the parking, maybe the crowds, maybe the overdose of ugly--tomatoes, lamps (dare I say, humanoids), but the Fair is the last place I want to spend my weekend.

National Baptist gathering comes to Louisville [Crescent Hill]

Local Baptist church will host large-scale three-day gathering at the end of April.

With the theme of “Resurrecting Church: Re-imagine, Re-ignite, Re-engage,” the Alliance of Baptists have announced that their annual national Convocation will be held at Crescent Hill Baptist Church on Frankfort Avenue April 29th-May 1st.

Movies in the pool to make Christmas week a little more tropical [Crescent Hill]

Metro Parks presents mid-week cold weather relief by opening the Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center for family, films and fun.

With the crazy cold temperatures that have been freezing up the Metro over the last few weeks, it is more than tempting to daydream back to July of this year and try to remember what it was like to lay around at the pool.

Olde Tyme Christmas returns to Frankfort Avenue [Crescent Hill]

The Frankfort Avenue Business Association event returns for another year of holiday deals, happenings and cheer.

A year ago, brand-new and zealous members of the Crescent Hill neighborhood, my wife and I invited friends to join us an early December afternoon so we could all partake in the festivities that were promised to be part of Olde Tyme Christmas on Frankfort Avenue.

Unfortunately, either as a product of our unfamiliarity with the neighborhood or our lack of understanding regarding the event, we never found/made it to the party. This year, I sure hope it is a different experience.

Gettin’ Chili – Community supper at Peterson-Dumesnil House this Saturday [Crescent Hill]

The Crescent Hill Community Council invites the neighborhood out for a seasonal dinner this weekend.

There are a lot of things I love about Autumn – wearing hoodies, celebrating holidays, pretending to care about politics - but at the top of the list would have to be eating a big bowl of chili.

My wife will attest that my testosterone and manliness do not manifest themselves in the typical ways most of the time. I hate sports, know nothing about cars, and think kittens are kind of adorable.

Neighborly 'Hoods: Foregone favorites [Real estate]

Any list of preferred local neighborhoods is going to have its “duh” candidates — the ones familiar to anybody who has ever asked advice about house hunting.

FAT Friday gets spooky [Crescent Hill]

The monthly Clifton-area festivity takes a turn for the seasonal with "Halloween Hop" this weekend.

As if the Frankfort Avenue Trolley Hop isn’t usually enough fun on its own, this month the normal outing gets a seasonal treatment with the “Halloween Hop.”

Friday (October 29th) from 6-10:30pm, business participants along Frankfort Avenue will decorate and hand out candy for the kiddos, along with offering specials and sales just for the evening. And here is a hint: dress up yourself and you are much more likely to cash in on some deals.
