Eccentric doesn't begin to cover it.

Located on 331 East Market Street, at the place where downtown and Nulu meet, there is a little building that used to be Derby City Espresso and is now Haymarket Whiskey Bar, signaled by an impressive neon sign that proclaims "Whiskey by the Drink". Proprietor and bartender Mathew Landan was quite clear on the fact that Haymarket Whiskey Bar does not serve cocktails.

Bowling Green-based group and recent Revfest Battle of the Bands winners play zany art rock that tickles your brain.

The student-run Revolution FM of Western Kentucky University hosted an annual event two weeks ago dubbed Revfest; its purpose to bring together the best music acts from within the area. This year was their first presentation of a "Battle of the Bands" competition, featuring 10 groups and over 200 attendees who all came together in enjoyment of the activities and damn fine weather. Independence Day is family holiday. In a state where most people marry 4 years below the national average anyone single over the age of 25 has reason to fear all family gatherings for the inevitable tsking tongues of aunts or the disappointed looks from grandfathers - not to mention your new nephew plopped in your lap as a relative condescendingly adds, "You'll never have one of your own if you don't settle down."

If you're new to Louisville and you haven't heard of New2Lou, you're missing out. New2Lou is an organization designed to help the newest Louisvillians get settled in, make friends, and find the coolest places to go in town. They host a social the second Wednesday of every month somewhere new and exciting in the city. Exhibit combines 10 new artists with 10 who've had showed at the first two Unconscious Collectives

Unconscious Collective 3, the latest installment of the 14-part group art show organized by Louisville artist Andrew Cook, opens at 6 p.m. tonight at Derby City Espresso. Keeping with Cook's idea of fusing individual works from Louisville artists into one unifying piece of art, Unconscious Collective 3 features 10 local artists who've displayed their work in the previous two shows along with 10 more area artists making their debut in the series.

Month-long art exhibit opens tonight at Derby City Espresso

Combining new exhibitors with ones who showed their work at the inaugural event in May, Unconscious Collective 2 organizer Andy Cook is taking the second step in his quest to create a unifying sculpture or story from the creations of local artists. "Basically this is to be an homage to the synchronicity, the collective consciousness and unconsciousness of the Earth," Cook said.
