Designer Amy Ward offers beautiful, affordable hats for Derby—and the Royal Wedding [Fashion]

I've lusted after the titanic proportioned brims of the Christine A. Moore collections of years past. And while this year’s collection feels a bit stale, I have seen only a small portion of it in person. After many hours online searching for something unique, beautiful and affordable, however, I finally found it at Award Millinery Design.

With just a few weeks to go before May 7, time is running out to find the perfect topper for Derby and Oaks. While many Louisville boutiques stock an impressive range of choices, I've found them generally to come with equally impressive price tags. For example Luna Boutique (1310 Bardstown Road) stocks beautiful Christine A. Moore and Lisa Farrell hats ranging from about $165 for a cute small brimmed cloche to nearly $900 for the sweeping wide-brimmed variety.

We broke the rest of the hats into categories for biggest, smallest, and home grown infield goodness. This gorgeous, carefully made hat didn't fit into any of those categories. It wins for both beauty and originality. we love it so much we have both a front and back view.

Pinch of fashion with a hint of Derby: AT&T's Derby Festival Spring Fashion Show

Spring is here and Louisville fashion has arrived with the presentation of the 2010 AT&T Derby Festival Spring Fashion Show. If you missed out, Louisville.com has you covered!

Walking into the Horseshoe Casino Showroom amidst a sea of hundreds of jubilant women and a few men peppered throughout the crowd, I suddenly became jealous that I had been unable to arrive early enough to experience the two hours of cocktails and the three course meal, clearly enjoyed by all. The lights dimmed, the boisterous attendees grew still, and the stage became live with spring fashion at the 2010 AT&T Derby Festival Spring Fashion Show.

Westport Village brings back the Derby Hat contest for 2009

There is, of course, plenty going on surrounding the Kentucky Derby in 2009, but other than a flourish of chapeau fashions on Oaks and Derby days, the hats used to be underserved.
Sponsored by the Courier-Journal/courier-journal.com, WAVE-3, and 102.3 THE MAX, The Outrageous Derby Hat Contest is a live event scheduled for Saturday, April 11, in the middle of Westport Village. Atherton High School Choir will perform at the beginning of the contest, which will be hosted by Lynda Lambert 102.3 THE MAX, and feature contestants modeling their Derby Hats for a live audience and a panel of celebrity judges. Winners will be announced at the end of the live event.
