Taste of Derby [Chic Geek]

Food, Drinks, Derby Fun
A fabulous way to begin the Derby weekend... with fantastic food, drinks and fashion!

The third annual Taste of Derby event titled "The Perfect Derby Appetizer" was just that!  Beautifully produced by Wayne Kostroski, founder of the "Taste of the NFL", it was held at the Louisville Executive Aviation Hangar at Bowman Field which was a stunning backdrop for the world-renowned chefs to prepare their innovative dishes.  The featured top chefs came to Louisville from very prestigious restaurants from all over the US along with one who traveled all the way from Dubai!

Seviche Hosts New Years Day Brunch Buffet [Food & dining]

Seviche is one of those favorite restaurants that I do not visit nearly enough. They are, however, giving me a great reason to visit on Sunday with their New Years Day brunch buffet and...get ready for it...Bloody Mary bar!

The most glorious words you can hear in the morning? In my opinion, they are these: "Would you like a Bloody Mary?" This question is always a lovely one, but is especially welcome on New Year's Day.

Does Louisville prefer Pepsi or Coke? [Food & Dining]

The Louisville Zoo, Churchill Downs, Slugger Field and even the Mayor of Louisville himself weigh in on this storied debate. What's your preference?
This is a different kind of red vs. blue debate than what you may be used to here in Cardinal Nation, but it may be equally as competitive. Coca-Cola has a more deeply rooted history and a slightly higher level of brand recognition than Pepsi, but is Coke still the most popular choice among soda drinkers here in the Lou?

Kentucky says Four Loko is a Loko too many [Food and dining]

Kentucky's Alcoholic Beverage Control joins many states and cities in announcing an effective ban on alcoholic energy drinks like Four Loko.

The Beatles, The Jeffersons, and Four Loko - all good things must come to an end.  So far five states have banned the drink and the number is rising as North Carolina is expected to join the ranks, many cities have enforced restrictions while waiting for their state to follow suit, and soon the FDA is expected to regulate the issue nationwide.  On Monday, Kentucky Alcoholic Beverage Control sent a letter to manufacturers, distributors, and retailers asking them to voluntarily discontinue their relationships with the drink and they are required to send ABC a response within

Westport Village summer concert series [Lyndon]

Lyndon's premiere shopping village offers great music and plenty of dining, drinking and shopping options to wind down after a long week.

It's Friday night in Louisville, and you're looking for something to do. There are plenty of great bars and restaurants in this town, along with amazing theater, museums and cinema.

But how about something a little different?

Selecting a Mint for Your Julep [Kentucky Derby]

There are hundreds of varieties of mint. Why settle for boring ol' grocery store mint for your Julep when you can cultivate your own instead?

Ah, the Mint Julep - a lovely muddled beverage consisting of bourbon, mint, sugar, and ice. Much has been said about this Kentucky Derby drink of choice. Aficionados have debated the relative merits of steeping versus muddling, while others argue that the best results come from using a mint syrup. Yet more debates have ensued regarding the appropriate bourbon to be poured over the ice.

Put your herb garden or farm share to work in your bar

Cool off with a mint and basil mojito on the 4th
When July rolls around in Louisville with its caressing warmth, all you want is a steaming hot cocoa right? Sorry, that was mean. An ice cold cocktail starring refreshing lime and mint fits the bill when our town is swaddled in a heated damp wool blanket. Mojitos are my summer cocktail of choice, and my little herb garden makes them just a bit more interesting with the addition of basil. (I learned this purely by accident when I didn’t have enough mint, but it works!)

Supper Speakeasy

The address arrives two days before the event with instructions: Wear black. Your password is Galileo.
I’m going to a Before and After Supper Speakeasy, an event by Bon Vivant Savant, and this month’s theme is the West African miracle berry that transforms flavors.
