64°F11:55 AM Earth Day was established more than forty years ago as an environmental "teach-in" designed to raise awareness about ecology and the preservation of our precious ecosystem. Since then, and thanks to its official sanction by the UN, it has been celebrated every year in more than 175 countries around the world, and has energized whole populations to create lasting policies that protect our planet's future.
You know how it goes; every Easter you stand, uncomfortable in a scratchy suit, keeping your greedy paws clasped behind your back in an attempt to stop yourself from stealing candy meant for kids. Little ones in their Easter finery shriek and giggle with chocolate stained faces, chomping jelly beans, and your stomach rumbles through the early service.
To some, it may seem as though Kentucky's win over the Louisville Cardinals this past Saturday was like Christmas come nine months early. But in only a week, the most important holiday of the Christian calendar, to which Christmas plays second fiddle, will be upon us. To celebrate Easter, the Frankfort Avenue Business Association invites families of all background and creeds this Saturday, April 7, to its 20th Annual Easter Parade.

They range in cost between $11 and $17 and can be customized to match her Easter dress. They also sell Derby hats - which I'll profile in a separate post.
Between a twenty-three minute fireworks display and the anticipation of the most exciting two-minutes in sports, it's easy for Easter to creep up on us in Louisville. Let's face it, holy week sometimes takes a back-seat when you live in the Derby City. With hats, hand-bags, and horses on the brain, it's hard to honor the bunny that inevitably will be coming to town next Saturday.
After stumbling on a blog posted in the spring of 2009 by someone lamenting the scarcity in New Jersey of beloved 7-oz. milk chocolate bunny Parsnip Pete, I started thinking such a retail travesty could never happen in Louisville. Not in our city. Surely, this delicious Easter treat, a traditional favorite among hollow milk chocolate bunny fans for years, has got to still be well-stocked in area stores. It pains me to say that I was mistaken.
This weekend, Sunday April 4th from 11 am- 4 pm, the Louisville Zoo (1100 Trevilian Way) is hosting an Easter party to celebrate some of the most spectacular residents of the zoo, the egg-laying animals, at the Zoo’s Eggstravaganza 2010!
