Easter-ly things to do [Family and Parenting]

It's here. It's Easter weekend. Have you seen the bunny? How about a parade? Check this out for some ideas for the weekend.

I don't know about you but Easter weekend has almost taken me by surprise.  I knew it was coming.  I have been buying goodies to fill Easter baskets for the kids.  We've colored eggs.   I have even bought a ham for dinner.  But today, Good Friday, it HIT me.  <

Easter hats for the kiddos [Fashion]

Looking for a cute Easter hat for your daughter? Something special that she'll wear for 2.5 minutes until she loses interest and tosses it aside?

Unique Surroundings has the cutest Easter hats for kids. I took my little one there and tried them all on - of course, she chose the pinkest hat of the bunch. They range in cost between $11 and $17 and can be customized to match her Easter dress. They also sell Derby hats - which I'll profile in a separate post.

Easter, the other Derby event [Family and parenting]

It's easy to forget the bunny when the horse is on the brain. A list of Easter events for the family to pay homage to this season's other holiday.

Between a twenty-three minute fireworks display and the anticipation of the most exciting two-minutes in sports, it's easy for Easter to creep up on us in Louisville. Let's face it, holy week sometimes takes a back-seat when you live in the Derby City. With hats, hand-bags, and horses on the brain, it's hard to honor the bunny that inevitably will be coming to town next Saturday.

Blankenbaker or Broadway? Southeast Christian's Easter Pageant rises to glory [Theater]

Coat hanger angel wings and wise men dressed in dad's robes? Not quite.
The spectacle of Southeast Christian’s Easter Pageant is unlike anything I’ve ever witnessed.  The production values rival (if not surpass) that of most Broadway musicals; and with seating for over 7,500 patrons, the venue itself is something to behold.

The story begins over 2,000 years ago when an angel visits a young virgin girl named Mary. The angel tells Mary that she is going to give birth to…

Well, I’ll stop there.

Southeast Christian's Easter Pageant takes the stage for the final time [theater]

It's been a Louisville staple for over a decade, but this year, the Easter Pageant says adieu.
Since 1995, the Louisville community has witnessed an Easter pageant like no other. This year marks the final year of the Southeast Christian Classic Easter Pageant.

The Pageant, as you might imagine, follows the story of Jesus, from birth to resurrection. But, Southeast Christian, as in everything else, depicts that story on a grand scale.

Parsnip Pete: A scarce sight in Louisville stores

Longtime favorite Easter candy no longer availble throughout Louisville. Mayhem ensues.

After stumbling on a blog posted in the spring of 2009 by someone lamenting the scarcity in New Jersey of beloved 7-oz. milk chocolate bunny Parsnip Pete, I started thinking such a retail travesty could never happen in Louisville. Not in our city. Surely, this delicious Easter treat, a traditional favorite among hollow milk chocolate bunny fans for years, has got to still be well-stocked in area stores. It pains me to say that I was mistaken.

Eggstravaganza! at the Louisville Zoo on Easter Sunday

Come out and spend your Easter Sunday at the Louisville Zoo!

This weekend, Sunday April 4th from 11 am- 4 pm, the Louisville Zoo (1100 Trevilian Way) is hosting an Easter party to celebrate some of the most spectacular residents of the zoo, the egg-laying animals, at the Zoo’s Eggstravaganza 2010!

Cheating to assemble your child's Easter basket?

Just one of the many things to do at the 18th annual Frankfort Avenue Easter Parade. Note: It's supposed to be about 80 degrees this weekend. That fact alone should be reason enough to get you to attend.

OK, look: I'm not going to blame you if you don't dress up like the Easter bunny for the 18th annual Frankfort Avenue Easter Parade. (Who knows where those pictures would end up, right?) That said, you really should check out the parade, which begins 11:30 a.m. Saturday in front of St. Mark's Episcopal Church (2822 Frankfort Ave.) and makes its way down Frankfort Avenue, from Stilz to Haldeman avenues. Your kids should love it.

Corpse exhibit, pasta party, parade are among Easter weekend highlights

Great pairings abound: wine and pasta, Easter and brunch, Shriners and parade
Bodies Human: Anatomy in Motion Mellwood Arts & Entertainment Center 1860 Mellwood Ave. Christ may not have been made of flesh, but the 100 real human specimens on display at this exhibit were. Tickets are $15 and children 13 years old and younger must be accompanied by an adult (probably because of the dead bodies and such). The exhibit runs through June 21. Louisville Bats April 10 (7:05 p.m.), 11 (6:15 p.m.), 12 (1:15 p.m.) Louisville Slugger Field 401 E. Main Street

Make your Easter Sunday brunch plans today

Regardless of your thoughts on the divinity and potential resurrection of Jesus Christ, there's one aspect of Easter about which people of all denominations can agree: it's a great day for brunch.
Regardless of your thoughts on the divinity and potential resurrection of Jesus Christ, there's one aspect of Easter about which people of all denominations can agree: it's a great day for brunch. The association of Jesus rising and a special brunch makes sense though; if I were resurrected, I'd want eggs Benedict and a Bloody Mary for my first meal. Here are some of the best bunches in Louisville where you still can get a table. Have a suggestion? Leave it in the comments. Proof 702 W. Main Street
