KaLightoscope, "Kentucky's Biggest Christmas Event" opened last Thursday for the second annual year at the Galt House Hotel downtown. For 2011 it has been expanded and attractions added. Christmas At The Galt House is expected to attract more than 80,000 people this holiday season.
According to a short and sweet press release just issued the highly anticipated Snow Ball Park has been canceled, just before it was set to open.
The park's operator, Rick Madden of Indianapolis, informed officials at the Kentucky Exposition Center that conditions and delays in construction put the event too far behind schedule. the park was to open Friday, November 25 and run through January 16.

The Summit will usher in holiday spirit at its signature holiday event “Lights Up” on Friday, Nov. 18 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on The Terrace. The annual event is free to attend and attracts families from all over Louisville. The North Oldham Little League All Star team has been selected for the honor of turning on The Summit’s holiday lights and kicking off the fireworks show. The team represented the region at the 65th Little League World Series this past summer.
Tickets to Santa’s Safari are now on sale online at www.louisvillezoo.org. The popular annual Holiday event is set for December 10-11 and 17-18, 2011 at 10 a.m., 12 and 2 p.m.
This jolly party will transform the Zoo’s Gheens Room in the Islands Pavilion into a festive holiday wonderland and include a visit by Santa, his elves, Frosty the Snowman and more — so be sure to bring a camera to capture some wonderful holiday memories. A complimentary photo with Santa will be provided to each family.
The Louisville Zoo’s newest baby giraffe will now be called “Amani” after a month-long naming contest. “Amani” means “peace” in the Swahili language. Zoo visitors had until October 31st to vote for their favorite name via coins and bills in the appropriate slot at a naming kiosk on the Zoo’s front plaza.
Saturday Morning Derby Dinner Playhouse kicked off the new season of Children's Musical Theatre with "Miss Nelson is Missing." The story is based on the book by Harry Allard & James Marshall. The house was pretty full for the 9:00am show.

Often-times we step outside our doors and casually wave to the mono-chromatic neighbors that surround us, but rarely do we have the pleasure of celebrating the beautiful diversity of our city. Only at my day-job, in the public school system of Jefferson County am I reminded of the cultures that call this area home.
