Beechmont Open Air Market [Food and Dining]

Where to go if you want locally-grown produce without the crowd.

There's a reason that the Bardstown Road farmer's market is the farmer's market in Louisville. They have a huge selection of products, a convenient location, and a fun atmosphere. But sometimes I have to remind myself that there's more to this city than what's in the Highlands, so I decided to check out another farmer's market this morning.

Farmers Market Find: Summer Squash [Southern Indiana]

Read the tale of this brave writer, as she hunts the aisles of her local farmer's market, collects her bounty of produce, then ingeniously figures out how to cook it all.

That object you see pictured above is a summer squash. Of some kind. That's what the nice lady at the New Albany Farmers Market told me, anyway (I trust her).

New Albany Farmers Market [Southern Indiana]

The New Albany Farmers market is now open. May hours are 8am-1pm. Items currently include lettuce, veggie plants, annuals, eggs, beef, pork, and arts & crafts.

Vendors from around the area showed up this past Saturday for opening day of the New Albany Farmer's Market. This market isn't just for farmers, however; in addition to food and plants, there were also baked goods, arts & crafts, a live band, and a Bubble Bus.

Valiantly resisting the urge to put off shopping in order to play at the Bubble Bus with the kids, I explored the market. And just for you, dear readers, I bought a bunch of stuff to try out and report back on.

Staycation Spotlight: Mother's Day Weekend [Southern Indiana]

This week's staycation spotlight is targeted for those still seeking the perfect Mother's Day weekend for the mother(s) in their life.

Looking for something special to do with the mother(s) in your life this weekend? A Mother's Day Weekend Staycation is a splendid way to show your appreciation and love.

The goal here is to provide a vacation for Mom, so don't forget the main caveat of a good staycation: NO WORK. For her, that is. Your job is to ensure she gets the break she deserves. But with a little planning up front, the weekend can be a rewarding experience for all. Here's what to do:

Bardstown Road Farmer’s Market is Back!

The market is open again, every Saturday through December 18th, 2010.

Located at 1722 Bardstown Road in the parking lot of the Bardstown Road Presbyterian Church, the farmers' market is a weekly Saturday morning routine for many residents of the Highlands, and it is open for business once again.
