Winter Farmers Market [Health & Fitness]

Bardstown Road Farmers Market is one of the most friendly farmers markets I have ever had the opportunity to go to.

Bardstown Road Farmers Market is one of the most friendly farmers markets I have ever had the opportunity to go to. Normally located in the parking lot of Bardstown Road Presbyterian Church, is located inside of one of the buildings (1722 Bardstown Road). The market only had a few venders there, but each had a variety of things. Almost every table had samples of what they were selling so that the customers knew what they would be buying; this made buying items easier for me and others as well.

For Farmers Looking To Get a Jump on the 2012 Season [Fitness & Health]

The Fern Creek Farmers Market is now accepting applications for the stall rentals on their website...This is a great place to get out there and sell some of your goods.

The Fern Creek Farmers Market is now accepting applications for the stall rentals on their website. The web address is http://ferncreek.org/market.php. The link to get the application and send it in is on that page. This is a great place to get out there and sell some of your goods. So hurry up and sign up farmers, for a chance to get a spot in a great place to sell your locally grown items. There is also a chance for volunteering at the website if you need some volunteer credit.

Farmers Market to deliver even in the heat [St. Matthews]

Get your free-range, home grown, and hand-made once a week - right across the street from Wal-Mart...

It’s promising to be a VERY warm weekend, but the St Matthews Farmers Market will be rocking in spite of the temps Saturday from 8am-12pm.

Ever been to the St. Matthews Farmers Market? Every Saturday this year - May 15th through September 25th  - the Beargrass Christian Church parking lot (corner of Browns Lane and Shelbyville Road) gets turned from empty blacktop into a town fair, boasting fifty or more regional and local vendors each week.

Too Many Choices This Weekend! [Southern Indiana]

There are far too many things to do this weekend in Southern Indiana alone. How's a person to decide?

Don't ever let anyone tell you there's nothing to do in Southern Indiana, and that the only real entertainment must be had by crossing the river. Yes, there are great things in metro Louisville - but there are great events on the Sunny Side, too:

FRIDAY

The Bardstown Road Farmers’ Market is open—but where’s the omelette stand? [Highlands]

Saturday morning patrons call, uh, fowl

As with so many great chicken-and-egg stories, it began with a tweet.

What’s cooking from the markets this week?

Pear pizza is a blissful fall dish
I was out picking up tomatoes about three weeks ago at the Sunday market when I saw the happiest of sites -- a pile of pears. I asked the ‘Mater Man’ about the unexpected appearance of pears and learned that our odd weather this summer has led to early pears. That’s good news to me, as I love pears in lots of savory dinner dishes. If you consign this crisp fall fruit to no more than a snack, you are missing out a on an entire world of happiness.

The best little tomatoes in Louisville

You need to know the “Mater Man”
It’s one thing to walk into a restaurant or bar and have the proprietor know you and your poison. It’s another thing altogether when farmer’s market vendor knows your preference in tomatoes. I love it. Most of us know about the lazy farmer’s market, the one on Sunday afternoons outside Rainbow Blossom on Lexington. But do you know that’s where the best little tomatoes in Louisville are to be found?

Winning Market Meals Competitions at Farmers’ Markets

'Tis the season for fresh stuff grown in our own fields. Now, thanks to the mayor's office, we'll see what local chefs can do with it.
by Michelle Jones michelle@louisville.com As if there weren’t already enough reasons to love our local Farmers’ Market now we’ve got another one. Not only can we hit the markets to buy fresh, local food, now we can watch and learn from some of our community’s best chefs preparing meals made from the same farmers’ market ingredients we’re buying.
