Time for some fresh fruit and veggies - St. Matthews Farmers' Market returns this weekend [Food and dining]

The popular farmers' market returns May 14 and will continue weekly through October 8.

The St. Matthews Farmers' Market will return for its fifth  season Saturday, May 14, at Beargrass Christian Church, located at 4100 Shelbyville Road.

The market will be open each Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. The market will be open through October 8.

Along with local produce, the market offers food such as waffles, crepes, wraps, muffins, scones, barbecue, burgers, gelato and popcorn.

On farmers market day, a quest for fresh eggs turns fowl. [Fitness and health]

Chicken lover is misguided by a poorly linked map, and fell short of fresh eggs. Next week, this writer will have her eggs, and eat them, too!

My intentions were good.  I'd set out far later this morning that I'd anticipated, to hit up a farmers market other than the one most local to me.  I thought I'd try something new, seek out some new farmers, and begin my official quest for the best locally-laid egg.

Zach's weekend picks for Louisville: Race for a cure, groove and dance, go go to a graveyard

And visit a farmers market while you still can this yea
Garvin Gates Blues Festival Garvin Place, between 4th and 6th Streets Oct. 9-10 "The largest free neighborhood street music festival in Louisville" is free and open to everybody (which is probably part of the reason it's the largest free festival in the first place). Head to Old Louisville for blues, food, drinks and those ubiquitous artist booths. Since 1988 the festival has featured legendary blues musicians: this year Lil' Dave Thompson is Friday night's headliner while Sugar Blue has the honors on Saturday night.
