The set of golf balls, standard dress socks and sentimental Hallmark cards don't have to set the tone for Father's Day 2011. Think outside the box, mix in a little fashion, and this year dad's big day may become his most memorable yet! Here's my number one suggestion for getting dad in tune with his fashion sense and spending that much needed bonding time together this Father's Day.
You're dying to know what it is, right?
It's simple. Take dad on a tour of Louisville. I bet you're wondering what in the world that has to do with fashion.
Wanting to break outside the normal gift giving slump for dad this Father’s Day? Think outside the box and go down to the Highlands neighborhood of Louisville and do a bit of shopping at WHY Louisville. This fun and locally owned shop is located at 1583 Bardstown Road. The store is full of items you can get for your dad that he will surely appreciate. The gifts from there always make my dad laugh and he actually wears the clothing I have purchased for him in past years.
So, sometimes you just can't get with dad on Father's Day. A great pre-Father's Day alternative is the first Annual Food Truckus Ruckus! put on by Fresh Start Growers' Supply. They've herded all the local food trucks into a single lot to provide you with Kentucky raised munchies straight from the truck. Come out to their location to see how good local foods can taste at 1007 E. Jefferson Street.
Although I'm a fashion contributor to Louisville.com, I consider my shopping expertise a valuable asset to the site's dear readers. Are you freaking out about what to get that that's interesting or at least different from last year's gift?
I was too - so I headed down to Frankfort Avenue to see what kinds of gift ideas I could scrounge up for Sunday's daddy celebration.
Sunday is Father’s Day, and if you are lucky enough to be able to visit with dear old Dad (or at least give him a telephone call), consider yourself most fortunate. Lots of folks have fathers who live out of town, are serving their country on foreign shores, or are no longer living. Sadly, many kids grow up never having the opportunity to know their father. For all of us, Father’s Day should be a time for contemplation and loving reminiscence.
Father's Day is this Sunday, but Churchill Downs has great activities planned for Friday and Saturday to help you kickoff a weekend of celebrating the special dads in your life.
If you really want to please Daddy-O this Father's Day, get him something that he will actually wear. The Fashion Post has soft fleece jackets that are light enough for summer but warm enough to keep him cool during an early morning fishing trip. Or pick up some swim trunks that he can wear to the pool.
Is your dad hip? Get him a summery silk pocket square or a new woven belt to replace that ratty old leather one. Either way, he deserves something nice that's unique and wonderful, just like he is.
If your dad ever yelled, “Turn that music down!” the Louisville Mandolin Orchestra might be something both of you can agree upon. The acoustic ensemble, whose repertoire covers music from early American to modern and from classical to folk, will perform a free concert on Sunday, June 20 at St.
