KidsFEST aims to please the kid inside us all [Family and parenting]

Free family fun in the Louisville area! Now, that's what I'm talkin' about! (I also enjoy dabbling in alliteration).

Kids, bring your parents!

The Bullitt County Chamber of Commerce (along with several corporate sponsors) presents the 2011 KidsFEST this Saturday, March 12. From 10 a.m.–3 p.m., be a kid again as you wander, play and learn from more than 70 booths with activities geared toward the youngins.

Railroad Earth brings locomotive size fun to Headliner's Music Hall [Music]

Railroad Earth’s sound isn’t country; and it isn’t bluegrass, and it isn’t rock. But they do mix all of those genres extremely well to create a hard to characterize collection of tunes.

Railroad Earth played to a packed house at Headliners Music Hall Friday night. The sextet from New Jersey had a close to capacity crowd grooving and jumping to their multitudinous array of instrumental sounds, reflecting a sense of Americana roots mixed with a jam band sensibility.

Forecastle Festival not to return until 2012, and will bring a friend [Music]

Forecastle founder JK McKnight is set to announce Thursday morning that Forecastle will not come to the riverfront again until 2012, and when it returns, things will be different.

The Forecastle Festival tenth anniversary concert has been shelved for a year with the cancellation of the 2011 concert. Forecastle founder JK McKnight announced Thursday morning that Forecastle will not come to the riverfront again until 2012, and when it returns, things will be different.  McKnight has partnered with AC Entertainment, founders of Bonnaroo, and have said that now they don’t have enough time to organize a festival of the same caliber as last year’s.

The bees are out... and they've got dictionaries [Germantown/Schnitzelburg]

The next Spelling Bee is on December 22 at Zanzabar on Preston, registration starts at 7:30pm and the bee starts at 8:30pm.

There has been an ever-growing buzz about a new bar game that actually stimulates intellectual activity.  The Spelling Bee, otherwise known as the Spleling Be, invites people come out to Germantown bars once a month to have a beer and compete in a spelling bee that is actually quite rigorous (the MC uses a GRE vocabulary flashcard deck). I only made it to the second round.

Fall Festival at Lifepointe Church promises family fun [Family]

During the season of witches, zombies and monsters (oh my!), here's an event that the whole family will enjoy.

The Halloween season can be a lot of fun. It's the only time when spotting zombies, mummies and other various members of the living dead is not a bad thing. But sometimes, it can be a little much for some of the younger kids.

So, what are some of the options for families that want to keep it a bit more simple? That's easy...there are several Fall Festivals around the area that offer families a great option to the usual Halloween fare.

One of them takes place tonight at Lifepointe Church in Middletown at their Fall Festival.

JTown knee-deep in Gaslight Festival [GAS2010]

We've seen runners, walkers, custom and classic cars, motorcycles and a golf scramble. And they're just getting warmed up.

Jeffersontown is in the middle of their biggest party of the year...The Gaslight Festival. It's the halfway point, and some of the biggest events still await.

Art in Speed Park [Southern Indiana]
