Louisville news: Ethics Commission judges Judy guilty again edition [News]

Local news for July 6, 2011
  • "After deliberating for over two and a half hours, the Louisville Metro Ethics Commission ruled Councilwoman Judy Green, D-1, deliberately violated the city’s code of ethics in the case of rerouting funds through a non-profit group without the council’s knowledge.

Fireworks and unemployment [The Arena]

The amount of ordinance in the neighborhoods this Fourth of July highlights the extreme injustice of our economic policy.

Anecdotal evidence from neighborhoods across the country indicates that, economic weakness or not, plenty of people have firework money this year.

And this is to be expected during periods of devastating deflation such as the one we are experiencing today, because it is during deflationary periods that the worst of our economic nature stands on display.

A classic July Fourth [Sports]

Just what makes a perfect July 4th in the city of Louisville?

I ask you what can get somebody in the mood for fourth of July in the best possible traditional sense in the state of Kentucky?

Eating twelve consecutive apple pies in one sitting?  After all nothing is more American than Apple Pie! No, and I would wager that that could cause some health issues, in addition aren’t apple pies actually Dutch or something like that in origin?  I suppose I could do some research here but I’ve chosen this question and answer style so I don’t have to.

The Fourth of July, Hulk Hogan, and Schlafly American IPA [Lville Beer]

The Fourth of July, Hulk Hogan, and Schlafly American IPA...What are REAL Americans, Alex?

My brain works in weird ways, so when I opened my fridge last night and reached for a bottle of Schlafly American IPA it didn't surprise me in the least that the Hulk Hogan "I Am a Real American" theme song popped in my head.   I channeled my inner Hulkster as I ripped the cap off and prepared myself, sans bandana, to enjoy my beer.  With the Independence Day holiday weekend coming up, this review might want to make you do the same.

Have fun, stay safe with these common-sense fireworks tips from UofL expert [Colleges]

Enjoy the holiday-far from the ER

·         Don’t mix alcohol with fireworks

Celebrate your country, support your town [Fourth of July]

On Independence Day, we do a splendid job celebrating our country. But what can we do to support, sustain, and improve our homeland? Sometimes the best ways to think big, is to think small.

The Fourth of July is a day of fireworks and grilling out. It's a day of parties and picnics, music and festivities. For this is the day we come together as a country to celebrate our political independence. We celebrate all that is good about our country, and all that we love about being here.

Get crafty with Uncle Sam: Fourth of July arts and crafts [Family and parenting]

What better way to say "I love you" to America than with some patriotic craft projects?

In the mood to inspire a little patriotism in your children for the Fourth of July? Well grab some construction paper and dust off that glue gun. Quicker than you can sing "Yankee Doodle Dandee," you and the kids can create some fun, patriotic craft projects...just in time for July Fourth!
