The Carnegie Center-A Taste of Art and History [visual arts]

The Carnegie Center's fundraiser was in full swing last night as the about 300 benefactors and patrons who bid silently, and some not so silently, enjoyed the delectable delights of Catering by Design and sampled wines from Huber Winery, several other winery and The New Albanian Beer Company. BUSTA Dog was busting some moves to 107.7 WSFR, well that is to say his brats, bison dogs and other delicious "dogs" were moving as people lined up to sample Busta Dogs covered in onions, peppers, potatoes or anything on his list. The Carnegie Center’s Taste of Art and History’s annual fundraising event was spectacular, with over 300 in attendance, and it was a wonderful evening for a drive from Kentucky to Indiana.

The international Glass Art Society conference in Louisville brings over 1000 artists from around the world and sparks an entire month of glass inspired art for us lucky locals.

KEEPING IT WEIRD

When most people out of state think about international conferences held in Louisville, they picture the Farm Machinery Show. If they're thinking hard, they might conjure an image of Something With Horses. What they don't picture is the international Glass Art Society conference.

Louisville musician Cheyenne Marie Mize, who has played with some of the city's most respected acts, will hold her own CD release party celebrating her EP Before Lately.

Cheyenne Marie Mize, who has played alongside such artists as Bonnie "Prince" Billy and Ben Sollee, and as a member of Arnett Hollow, is releasing her solo debut Before Lately on sonaBLAST! Records.

Local singer-songwriter Saredren Wells to play CD release party with The Mack and Roadie from Arnnett Hollow Friday on the rooftop garden at Glassworks.

Louisville is For Lovers has been a successful venture for the past decade, but the compilation of the same name released their final CD in the series with the 2010 version. Now, however, the newly formed Louisville is for Lovers record label has emerged, and local musician Saredren Wells has just released his debut CD Memories Are Hunting Horns... on the new label.

Jazzyblu, Louisville's new jazz club, opens tonight at Glassworks

Jazz regains a permanent home in the city at 8 p.m.

Jazz regains a permanent home in Louisville when Jazzyblu, a jazz cafe and lounge, opens tonight at 8 p.m. Located in the lower level of Glassworks (815 W. Market St.), space previously occupied by the now-defunct Jazz Factory, Jazzyblu will focus on smooth jazz from local performers with occasional concerts from regional and national acts. The club will feature live music Thursday through Sunday nights.

Glassworks gets back in the game with Dub Fest '09

With the onslaught of summer comes the opportunity to do outdoor events. With the past success of hipster events on their rooftop, Glassworks looks to capitalize on shorts weather to introduce you to "dub".

Ok, so it's not officially summertime, but the sun has certainly been shining more often. Not exactly like it does in Kingston, Jamaica, but we can certainly pretend.

Dub Fest '09, set for Friday, May 29th highlights this little-known but evidently influential type of music that comes out of the tropical paradise to help music from electronica to hip-hop and more. Here's the full lineup of the night:

Ordered chaos appears downtown

Taking a trip through the city streets can be harrowing during the height of traffic, but chaos? Not quite. The real maelstrom is appearing at the cooler-than-cool Vonfire Gallery at Glassworks.

Glassworks is pleased to announce the next show in the VONFIRE Gallery, “Ordered Chaos”, running August 1-30. The show features drawings by Skylar Smith and new works in response to Skylar’s drawings by Glassworks Artists: Chad Balster, Casey Hyland, Clair Raabe, and Jonathan Swanz.
