Louisville has a reputation as a hard drinking town where locals think nothing of staying out until the bars close at 4 am. They're just as hardcore across the river in Southern Indiana, but this month they're showing it off in a more genteel way. That's right, our clever neighbors have found a way to make drinking in the afternoon socially accceptable - they turn it into a festival.

Author event: Susan Reigler The Wine Rack 2632 Frankfort Ave. Oct. 30, 5-8 p.m. Carmichael's Bookstore is sponsoring this evening with Susan Reigler, co-author of "The Kentucky Bourbon Cocktail Book." The publication includes more than 100 cocktail recipes using Kentucky's favorite spirit.

We've Got to Carry Each Other: The Gospel According to U2 Carmichael's 2720 Frankfort Ave. July 17, 7 p.m. Author Greg Garret will examine the spirituality of one of rock's greatest acts Friday night. Garrett's look at U2 runs from the band's founding to its current status as the elder statesmen of rock and how it has influenced areas outside of music.
