The effort will make Kentucky the first state in the nation to promote healthier food options at state-operated vending sites, said state Education and Workforce Development Secretary Joseph U.

A Rockin' Good Time to Close Out the Kentucky State Fair [Music]

What a great way to close out the Kentucky State Fair by seeing Train, Maroon 5, and Matt Nathanson in concert!

These bands sure came to rock!  Freedom Hall was packed and the fans came to have fun!

Sports Legends of the Ville (landmark edition): FREEDOM [Sports]

For the past couple of months I've been occasionally throwing out iconic athletes from Louisville. Sports legends of the Ville I called the series. But, I'd like to add to that series, sports legends of a different variety; the iconic buildings and arenas that made the city's historic sports past what it is today.

What better place to start the landmark edition of Sports Legends of the Ville than Freedom Hall? Opened in 1956, Freedom Hall was a building that was beyond it’s time. Ironically though, the building itself didn’t open to house basketball games; as so many remember it today.

It was actually built to house the World’s Championship Horse Show during the Kentucky State Fair. A horse show still operates in that building annually, almost a tribute to the venue.

High-fashion favorite Zang Toi prepares for his Louisville visit [Fashion]

Head to Glasscock next weekend to meet New York City-based designer Zang Toi when he visits Louisville to showcase his fabulous Fall 2011 line.

Zang Toi, a NYC-based designer preferred by celebrities like Sharon Stone and Eva Longoria, is making his way to Louisville's own Glasscock Boutique August 25th - 27th to showcase his Fall 2011 collection. Toi is one of very few designers to have received a standing ovation during New York’s Fall Fashion Week this year for his masterful blending of camel, black and emerald green with choice autumn fabrics such as velvet, taffeta, and wool with fur accents.

Corndog days are about to be over [Kentucky State Fair]

This is the last weekend for the Kentucky State Fair. A rundown of what's yet to come.

It's times like these when I can sit back, unbutton my pants, and sit proud with my hand down my pants like Al Bundy from Married With Children because I've gotten my proper fill of corndogs for the year.

Did the Courier-Journal call Gov. Steve Beshear a "queen"? [News]

"Queens" is plural, right?

Apparently the Louisville Courier-Journal has annointed Gov. Steve Beshear queen (what does that make Jerry Abramson?).

And lest you think that photo's a crop job, here's a screenshot from the Courier-Journal:
