61°F7:55 AM About six months ago, The Root Cellar opened on the corner of Third and Hill Streets in Old Louisville. Since then, Ron Smith, who owns the small shop, has provided the residents of the neighborhood with the freshest possible eggs, milk, meat, and produce. All foods sold at The Root Cellar come from farms in the surrounding area, providing a cozy, friendly place to easily buy and eat local.

It’s a new kind of cattle drive.
The locavore movement has taken off in a big way, with locally grown food and, often, small and/or organic farm origins holding great appeal for those interested in lowering their carbon footprint and avoiding many of the chemicals added to mass-produced produce and meat. Visit any local farmers’ market and you’ll find flavorful chicken, lamb, bison, pork and more—all coming from surrounding counties.
The Passionist Earth & Spirit Center will offer two separate courses, “A World of Health: Connecting People, Place and Planet” and “Eating Sustainably: Menu for the Future” on six consecutive Mondays beginning this coming Monday, Jan. 17, 2011.
That object you see pictured above is a summer squash. Of some kind. That's what the nice lady at the New Albany Farmers Market told me, anyway (I trust her).
