Children love slumber parties -- it's a fact -- which is the reason why so many look forward to the New Year holiday: it's the one night when many families deem it appropriate for youngsters to stay up past their bedtime to celebrate. The Louisville Zoo has capitalized on this trend this year by offering the first-annual "Zoo Snooze," the wildest way to ring in 2012!
Tickets to Santa’s Safari are now on sale online at www.louisvillezoo.org. The popular annual Holiday event is set for December 10-11 and 17-18, 2011 at 10 a.m., 12 and 2 p.m.
This jolly party will transform the Zoo’s Gheens Room in the Islands Pavilion into a festive holiday wonderland and include a visit by Santa, his elves, Frosty the Snowman and more — so be sure to bring a camera to capture some wonderful holiday memories. A complimentary photo with Santa will be provided to each family.

The Louisville Zoo issued a press release, they have another new polar bear! Siku, a 585 lb nearly two year-old male polar bear cub arrived safely in Louisville from the Toledo Zoo on September 6. Siku is the second polar bear cub to move to the Louisville Zoo’s newest exhibit, the arctic-themed Glacier Run which opened in April 2011. His addition brings the Glacier Run polar bear population to three (there are only 79 polar bears in zoos in North America). He joins seven month-old female, Qannik, the rescued Alaskan cub and Arki, an adult female polar bear.
So this past Saturday was the annual Brew at the Zoo at our local hub for animal viewing, the Louisville Zoo. It was beyond what I would call a perfect day weather wise with temps in the upper 80's and virtually no humidity to be felt. If you weren't there let me paint the scene for you - beautiful blue skies, a nice open field area for sitting, mingling, and relaxing, several large tents filled with brewery reps and volunteers pouring beer and food vendors serving their goods, and a stage with live music.
