64°F8:25 AM Margaret’s Consignment, located at 2700 Frankfort Avenue, will host a special fundraiser called “Hats Off for Hosparus” on Thursday, April 5, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Does the helter-skelter rush of the malls exhaust you? Are you sick and tired of sticker shock in the dressing rooms of departments stores? Are you broke and looking for an interview suit or an outfit for a first date? Are you interested in putting together an ensemble that no mannequin has worn before you? Louisville has many wonderful thrift, consignment and vintage shops at your disposal; among them four gems: Margaret's Consignments and Collectibles, The Nitty Gritty, Evolve Consignments, and The Nearly New Shop.
Just like the clothes it features, Margaret's Consignment and Collectibles (2700 Frankfort Ave.) is a Louisville classic. Though not the oldest consignment store in Louisville, Margaret's has been in business since 1991 and offers one of the widest selections of sizes (including a petites section, most importantly to me) and other items in town.
Consignment shopping is a great alternative to mall shopping for many reasons.
This Friday, the night before Derby Day, is also the final Friday of the month, which means the F.A.T. Friday Trolley Hop will be taking place. (The monthly event has free trolleys that transport people up and down Frankfort Avenue to bars, restaurants and shops.) Local businesses will have plenty of complimentary wine to go around.
Now, I'm no expert on women's fashion. I mean, my own wardrobe has needed a makeover for five years or so. That said, a little window shopping at Margaret's Consignment (2700 Frankfort Ave.) tells me that for Easter, ladies, you need to be wearing lots of pink.
