64°F8:55 AM A community meeting, which was organized under the guise of discussion about selecting LMPD Chief Robert White's replacement, was held at the Nia Center last night. Residents of districts 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 were invited to attend. Another, similar meeting, was held in district 2 at the Newberg Community Center.
The close of business today was the deadline for applicants to fill the position vacated on the Louisville Metro Council when 1st District Democrat Dr. Judy Green was removed from office by a unanimous vote by the Council. At 5:00 there were a total of 16 applicants received at City Hall for the position.
Early Tuesday evening, Louisville’s Metro Council voted unanimously to remove Democrat Dr. Judith Green from her position as First District Councilwoman. The vote of the council was 20-0 in favor of removal; based upon two findings that Green violated city ethics rules regarding money paid for the "Green Clean Team" youth program and money illegally laundered through the 100 Black Men group.
It now appears that supporters of disgraced Louisville Metro Councilwoman Judy Green (Dem., 1st Dist.) are beginning to play the race card in her defense. At a rally in support of Dr. Green last Tuesday, Gracie Lewis, who indicated she is one of Councilwoman Green’s constituents, asked, "When is white America going to wake up and realize we are not stupid? We are not stupid.”
Louisville’s Metro Council announced late this afternoon that the process has begun to schedule a vote over whether to remove Dr. Judy Green from her position as 1st District Councilwoman, as recommended last Friday by the Metro Ethics Commission.
This afternoon, Louisville’s Metro Ethics Commission recommended the removal of Councilwoman Judy Green from office; finding that she violated ethics laws by mishandling funds and improperly paying extra money to her family members. Handing down the harshest penalty available, the Commission voted unanimously to find Green guilty of violating ethics laws on at least four occasions.
On Monday, we reported that six Democrats on Louisville’s Metro Council indicated that they will participate in a week long voluntary furlough program, at the suggestion of Council President Jim King (D-10). This is in keeping with Mayor Greg Fischer’s plan to require all City employees making over $70,000 to take off a week without pay. The mayor is also encouraging a voluntary furlough program for Metro Government employees making under $70,000.
A week ago, Louisville Metro Council President Jim King (D-10) sent a memo to the other 25 council members, suggesting that the participate Mayor Greg Fischer’s voluntary weeklong furlough program. “I committed to encourage 100% participation among council members immediately following the Mayor’s Budget presentation,” said King. “I would like to get a sense from all members as to their participation and the participation of their aides and staff. So, I will be contacting each office”
