Metro Council discussion about next LMPD chief happened despite meeting format [Opinion: The Arena]

A community meeting tiled, "Louisville Metro Council discussion on new LMPD Chief," seemed set up to be nothing more than a police satisfaction survey that was not even created by Metro Council. Louisville residents weren't having it.

A community meeting, which was organized under the guise of discussion about selecting LMPD Chief Robert White's replacement, was held at the Nia Center last night. Residents of districts 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 were invited to attend. Another, similar meeting, was held in district 2 at the Newberg Community Center.

Charges of racism starting to appear in defense of Councilwoman Judy Green [The Arena]

Phony charges of racism may well be the last refuge of the scoundrel.

It now appears that supporters of disgraced Louisville Metro Councilwoman Judy Green (Dem., 1st Dist.) are beginning to play the race card in her defense.  At a rally in support of Dr. Green last Tuesday, Gracie Lewis, who indicated she is one of Councilwoman Green’s constituents, asked, "When is white America going to wake up and realize we are not stupid? We are not stupid.”

Not to be outdone, the Republicans are voluntarily giving up some of their pay. Will the rest of the Democrats follow?

On Monday, we reported that six Democrats on Louisville’s Metro Council indicated that they will participate in a week long voluntary furlough program, at the suggestion of Council President Jim King (D-10).   This is in keeping with Mayor Greg Fischer’s plan to require all City employees making over $70,000 to take off a week without pay.  The mayor is also encouraging a voluntary furlough program for Metro Government employees making under $70,000.
