Gettin’ Chili – Community supper at Peterson-Dumesnil House this Saturday [Crescent Hill]

The Crescent Hill Community Council invites the neighborhood out for a seasonal dinner this weekend.

There are a lot of things I love about Autumn – wearing hoodies, celebrating holidays, pretending to care about politics - but at the top of the list would have to be eating a big bowl of chili.

My wife will attest that my testosterone and manliness do not manifest themselves in the typical ways most of the time. I hate sports, know nothing about cars, and think kittens are kind of adorable.

Last chance to enjoy Crescent Hill Outdoor Cinema this year is Aug. 27 [Crescent Hill]

Crescent Hill Outdoor Cinema series concludes this Saturday, with a double feature of "Cars" and "Bullitt"--a great way to wind down the summer.

If you are looking for something fun to do to celebrate the end (yikes!) of summer, how about giving the Crescent Hill Outdoor Cinema a try?

The series has run throughout the summer and will conlude this Friday, Aug. 27 with a double feature of Disney/Pixar's "Cars" and "Bullitt" starrring Steve McQueen. The shows will begin at dusk at the Peterson-Dumesnil House, 301 S. Peterson Ave.

NEW ALBANY

Peterson-Dumesnil House already setting up for Crescent Hill Fourth of July party [Crescent Hill]

How to guarantee a prime location for the weekend festivities
Tents are already going up around the Peterson-Dumesnil House (301 S. Peterson Ave.), which hosts this weekend's Crescent Hill Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration. With temperatures expected in the low- to mid-90s, shade will be in high demand. My suggestion? Head over now, plop down in a foldable chair and wait until the fireworks show 10 p.m. Sunday night.

Crescent Hill Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration taking place this Saturday and Sunday [Crescent Hill]

Bring me booze and you can park on my back hill
All over Crescent Hill, signs stapled to telephone poles are promoting the 27th-annual Crescent Hill Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration, held this Saturday and Sunday. The Crescent Hill Art & Music Festival, it's worth mentioning, will be going on at the same time. The fact that it takes place at the Peterson-Dumesnil House (301 S. Peterson Ave.) — basically my back yard — makes me want to check it out. (Side note: Notice in the picture that the sign says there'll be free trolley rides for spectators?

Weeping cherry trees in bloom in Crescent Hill

Check them out before the wind leaves behind nothing but bare branches

Several weeping cherry trees have bloomed in front of the Peterson-Dumesnil House (301 S. Peterson Ave.) in Crescent Hill. I'm not typically into this sort of thing, but the explosion of pink flowers is a beautiful sign of spring. (Can't believe I just typed that.) The wind will likely blow all of the petals to the ground by the end of the day, so you'd better get over there while you still can. This morning, it was as if it was raining flowers.
