More Than a Championship Spot at Stake [Sports]

Louisville and Kentucky face off in the state's biggest match-up in recent history. A trip to the National Championship is at stake. What will a loss/win do for each program?

This one's big. Although, both coaches try- their is no downplaying this one.

Not this time.

The stakes are just too high.

Louisville Falls in Home Finale [Sports]

Louisville Falls to South Florida 58-51. It was the final game of the season in the KFC YUM! Center and Senior Night for the Cardinals. Seniors Kyle Kuric and Chris Smith tied with team highs, both getting 13 points. Read my breakdown of the loss here.

Around the 2 minute of the 2nd half, Rick Pitino removed his sports coat in anger; the bucket, however, remained closed for the No. 18 Cardinals as they fell 58-51 to South Florida. The Cardinals shot under 35% for a third straight game Wednesday night and dropped to seventh place in the Big East.

"I'm not going to answer that," Rick Pitino responded when asked about offensive inefficiently.

Syracuse Edges Louisville, 52-51 [Sports]

The (20-6) Louisville Cardinals came up one point short against the #2 ranked Syracuse Orangeman on "Big Monday" in a nationally televised game Monday Night. In a night where offense was at a premium, Syracuse managed to score the final 6 points of the game. A recap and my analysis of the loss.

Free Throw- a shot that is given to a player once a foul has been committed by an opponent. 8- how many points Louisville lost due to missing "free" throws, going 12-21 for the game & 1-5 in the final critical minutes. 1- how many points the Louisville Cardinals (20-6, 8-5 Big East) lost by, to the #2 ranked Syracuse Orangeman (26-1, 13-1). You do the math.

What Coach Rick Pitino and the Louisville players had to say about Kentucky [Sports]

University of Louisville Cardinals
Rick Pitino said his team would not hold a press conference prior to Saturday’s matchup against Kentucky. What it does mean though for those with an insatiable thirst for all things ‘Cats-Cards is these may be the only quotes from the Louisville side prior to Saturday.

After falling from the ranks of the unbeaten in Wednesday’s 71-68 loss to Georgetown, Rick Pitino said his team would not hold a press conference prior to Saturday’s matchup against Kentucky. From a coaching standpoint, it’s probably a wise move to not put your players through another round of questioning and instead have get it over with while still steaming about their first loss of the season.

Cards Roll on to 8-0, Despite 1st half play [Sports]

Senior Guard Chris Smith said Rick Pitino's anger was "justified", despite a 90-60 victory vs IUPUI Wednesday night.

It wasn't pretty. It may have not been what Head Coach Rick Pitino hoped for. But, it was simply good enough.

The Louisville Cardinals improved to 8-0 after defeating IUPUI Wednesday night, in front of 20,604 in the KFC YUM! Center. Senior Guard, Chris Smith, scored his 1000th point of this career, and also led the team in scoring with 19 points. However, it didn't come easy for the Cardinals, who led by just 5 at the halftime break.

The University of Louisville men's basketball team has taken a double hit.

Friday UofL announced that neither former Memphis guard Roburt Sallie nor 2010 signee Justin Coleman will be eligible to play for the Cardinals in the 2010-11 season.

According to the announcement Sallie, who had signed a financial aid agreement with UofL in June, won't play "due to the timing requirements of meeting the matriculation deadline for graduate school."

Pitino looks to "rebrand" not rebuild next season [Sports]

Despite losing his top three scorers from this past season's team University of Louisville coach Rick Pitino isn't looking to the 2010-11 campaign as a rebuilding one.

By Josh Cook

Even though he's losing his top three scorers from this past season's team University of Louisville coach Rick Pitino isn't looking to the 2010-11 campaign as a rebuilding one.

But he's not looking at it as one in which the Cardinals will reload either.

Instead, he's looking at next season as a "rebranding." That despite the fact that UofL unexpectedly lost last season's leading scorer and rebounder (Samardo Samuels) to early entry in the NBA Draft.
