The Louisville Triple Crown of Running (LTCOR) is the first running event in the area to offer a social media messaging system that connects with the runners friends and family; so as to let them know they have accomplished a goal of theirs. Louisville—just like Disney Marathon, Army 10 Miler, and the L.A. Marathon—has decided to hope on the band wagon and embrace technology. “Gault Race Management, long-time partner with the LTCOR, is bringing XAct Text and Social Media Messaging to the three-race series.
On Saturday, February 4th, the final leg of the Polar Bear Grand Prix was held in Cherokee Park. The Snowman Shuffle 4 Miler presented a challenging conclusion to the racing series for the tens of billions of runners who traveled from the farthest reaches of the planet to participate (possible overstatement – I suck at counting). Shockingly enough, at no point did the race transform into a violent free-for-all of carnage and bloodshed, despite my best efforts.
Fitness is awesome. And by awesome, I mean essential to not dying. So why not start not dying this weekend by running in the Snowman Shuffle 4 Miler?
Sponsored by River City Races, the Snowman Shuffle 4 Miler will be held this Saturday, February 4th at 9:00 a.m. at Hogan’s Fountain in Cherokee Park. It is the final leg of the Polar Bear Grand Prix. The first leg, the Reindeer Romp 4k, was held December 10th. The second leg, the Frostbite 5k, was held January 7th.
On Saturday, January 7th, the second leg of the Polar Bear Grand Prix was held in Cherokee Park. The Frostbite 5k was jam packed with people of various ages following one another, alternating their left and right feet at varying speeds. One local fitness expert even declared the race “Louisville’s equivalent of the Running of the Bulls.” Fortunately, that dude was quickly declared a moron by everyone who heard him utter such lunacy.
Whether you’re a seasoned runner, a newbie armed with a New Year’s resolution, or someone who is just really interested in learning how easily certain parts of their body chafe, the Frostbite 5k is the perfect opportunity to get out there and run around like the raving lunatic you know you are deep down inside.
Granted when I say Iron Man today one’s mind will inevitably go in the direction of Saturday’s Derby City Comic Con and the superhero Tony Stark portrayed by Robert Downey Jr., however were inching ever closer to certain deadlines for entrants in the 2011 Ford Ironman competition for Louisville.
You are running through a rainforest. Armed with nothing but your will, your entire cotton shirt is drenched in perspiration as if you've just been caught in a monsoon. Your features are distorted with anguish as you trip over roots, each stride bringing a new green, leafy barrier to throw yourself through. And just when you think your legs will fold under the pressure, you see a light shining through the tree, and ALAS you are on... Lexington Road.
The saying goes that "life begins at 40." Perhaps for some, but for Dr. Edgar Byron Morgan Sr., life began at 66. It was at the ripe age of 66 that Dr. Morgan ("Doc" as he became known in running circles) completed his first marathon. It wasn’t just any marathon; Doc chose the famed New York City marathon as his first conquest. It would begin the start of a 23 year love affair with running.
