Lacrosse isn’t just a city in Wisconsin; it’s quickly gaining popularity all across the nation. There’s even an NCAA Division I men’s team right here in Kentucky, at Bellarmine University. Want to understand the rules, player positions and basic strategy to better enjoy it—or start watching altogether?

On Thursday, February 2, new coach Kevin Burns will host “Lacrosse 101,” where he will give you the basics and even a chance to try it for yourself. Check out player equipment up close, ask questions and even get a ticket to a game.

Brown‘s rough season continues, lose big in Tom Creaner classic. [Sports]

Brown School comes up short in Shelby County tournament, losing streak continues.

At the beginning of the season I’m pretty sure Brown high coach Justin Leonard aimed for a more impressive mid-season record than 1-15, but that is exactly where his team currently stands. The Bears suffered a humbling defeat Saturday against Kentucky Country Day (6-8) in the Shelby County tournament by a score of 80-47.

Sports legends of the Ville: The Seahawk [Sports]

Steve Raible today is highly sought after broadcasting talent in the the Northwest but prior to that he was an all-star wide receiever for Trinity, because of that he is the topic of this sports legend of the ville segment.

Today Trinity high school has produced its share of NFL stars indeed the team is more often than not ranked in the top ten high school football teams in the country.

But, there’s always got to be a first and for the Shamrocks that was Steve Raible. A wide receiver who had a knack for leadership.

After leaving Trinity, the young man headed south to play with Georgia Tech, early on Raible’s talent and positive attitude proved itself infectious within the Yellow Jackets organization.

A video history of Louisville sports (Part 2) [Sports]

Yesterday I began to look through video at some of the classic sports moments in the history of the city of Louisville. Here I complete what I started yesterday.

Previously, I looked through video at some of the classic sports moments in the city’s history; today I continue that look.

The most iconic baseball team in the city shared its name with the first professional basketball team, the Louisville Colonels basketball squad suited up in 1947 for the Professional Basketball League of America.

Because you'll go ballistic when you read this... (Why Basketball is Worse Here) [Louisville Magazine]

Disclosure: The author grew up in Massachusetts. [Editor’s note: Another reason basketball is just bigger in Kentucky is because we allowed a blowhard from Massachusetts to contribute to this package.]

11 > 2,000

Quick quiz: Would you rather have Kentucky’s 2,000-plus victories or UCLA’s 11 NCAA championships? If you picked the first option, you’re a lying UK fan. Look, if titles didn’t matter, you wouldn’t have run Tubby Smith (263-83 overall at UK) out of Lexington. Fact: College basketball’s winningest program is in California.

Pro Pigskin in the Bluegrass [Sports]

To this day football is a thriving aspect of the sports landscape in the city of Louisville. Here I take a look at the plethora of pro and semi-pro teams to come through the Derby City.

Go to any Sports bar on any given Sunday in the city and people in there will be yelling about one thing and one thing alone: football.

Well, in general, I mean if you drop a chair on somebody’s foot I would assume that they would yell about that, but at that point were really just dealing with semantics at that point.
Football this time of here is huge, like in the rest of the country the game invented in Canton, Ohio has become a routine for so many.
