New monthly wine tasting at Winston's Restaurant [Food & dining]

This month, Winston's Restaurant will begin offering an accessible and affordable way for the public to learn about wines of the world.

To many people, learning about wine is nearly is fun as drinking it. Thankfully, Winston’s Restaurant at Sullivan University is offering a series of affordable evenings centered around wine education and, of course, tastings of the subject!

Benefit concert to be held for the Andrew Compton Memorial Fund [Germantown-Schnitzelburg]

Andrew Compton was killed a few weeks ago in the Highlands.

Most Louisvillians have heard of the murder of 18-year-old Sullivan student Andrew Compton who was allegedly killed in the Highlands by a man he met online. The alleged culprit has confessed, facts have been revealed, but at the end of the day the Compton family still hasn’t found their son’s body as LMPD ended their search for Andrew’s body at a Medora, Ind. landfill last week after an exhaustive search (this is where the dumpster that allegedly contained Andrew’s body was taken).

'Top Chef' Louisville style

What’s better than sitting on your couch watching chefs battle it out for prizes and recognition on television? Sitting at a lovely dining table drinking cocktails and enjoying the fruits of their labor yourself, of course!

Attention Louisville foodies: Culinary showdown at Winston’s August 10

Local culinary students will face off in a Dumante cocktail and savory dish challenge
I’ve been obsessed with watching Top Chef since its first season on Bravo, even so far as to dine alone at season one winner Harold Dieterle’s restaurant while on a work trip to New York City. Then there’s the Next Food Network Star, and any number of spinoffs, but they all boil down to fulfilling the viewing audience’s love of watching people cook competitively. I’m not a sports person but I can cheer my favorites on to greater culinary feats with the most the best of basketball and football fans.
