Sweet, Sweet Sapporo [Food & Dining]

Mango sushi and flaming presentation make Sapporo a tried and true favorite.

Some say sushi has become about as overdone as cupcakes or bacon or any other trendy food that comes and goes. I say, who could ever get tired of sushi?

Making it BIG at Oishii Sushi [Food&Dining]

Oishii is a small place with a BIG taste and BIG rolls. With a second location recently opened down the road, they seem to have made it big.

What can I say, I like big things. Resist the "that's what she said joke"; I'm serious. I like giant burgers dripping with cheese and mayonnaise. I like towering ice cream cones drizzled with chocolate sauce and chopped cashews. And I LOVE big sushi, the kind of sushi you have to strain your jaw to chomp down on.

Dining out: Wild about sushi [Food & Dining]

When Wild Ginger Sushi Bistro opened just a few doors from Sapporo Japanese Steakhouse in October 2010, some questioned whether that Highlands stretch of Bardstown Road could support another sushi-centered restaurant. So far the answer is undoubtedly yes.

If you were among the shivering, huddled masses squeezed cheek-to-jowl inside the public viewing areas for Saturday's Thunder Over Louisville, I can say, honestly, that I have shared your pain.

Notice, I used past tense, "have," because this year was completely different.

In search of cheap sushi

Investigating super happy hour at Maido
I have a few addictions in life, some cheap (York patties) and some not (international travel). And then there are those in between that can keep me from my travels — namely sushi. I could eat it every day for the rest of my life.

Keeping the stimulus money home: Oasis Sushi Bar

Each week Dana McMahan will spend her payroll stimulus at a local business. This week, half price sushi on Preston.
When my husband and I traded our rental in the Highlands for home ownership in the ‘217 we knew what we were giving up – among other pleasures, the ability to walk to a sushi dinner. So I was giddy when the sign went up late last fall on Preston Highway announcing a sushi restaurant opening soon. Sushi on Preston! The dreary no-man’s land of day-labor, fast food and dry cleaners south of Eastern Parkway would finally offer more than a quick route to the airport.
