Mostly known for its music, Forecastle Festival also focuses on environmental activism

Event allows area groups to network and collaborate
While music gets most of the attention surrounding the Forecastle Festival, it's just one of the event's three pillars. In 2003, the festival's second year, Forecastle Festival Capt. J.K. McKnight added activism and art to the lineup. And they've been integral parts of the event ever since. As has been the case since 2005, activist activities will focus on the environment at the festival, to be held July 10-12 at the Riverfront Belvedere.

Celebrate Earth Day in Louisville by picking up, going green and having fun

Here are some Earth Day activities in The Ville this week (most of which take place this weekend rather than on April 22).

I hate Earth Day.

While the first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970, no one save a few stinky hippies gave a smoldering compost pile about it until the early 1990s. And by that time, April 22 had become an important day for another reason: in 1976 it became my birthday.
