Surprise comes in many forms, this time it was a pint glass [Food and dining]

I was told I HAD to try this limited edition beer. Normally I don't like being told what to do; this time I'm glad I listened.

I was at Boombozz Taphouse in the Highlands last week for their Schlafly Beer fundraiser for the Wings Clinic here locally when my good friend Michael Beckmann, the bar manager there, said that I HAD to try this limited release brew - Hop Toddy.  I agreed, but as I sat and finished my Smoked Porter I have to admit I was having some reservations about what I would think of this so-called Hop To

Local restaurants where kids eat free (or pretty darn close) [Family and parenting]

The economy is suffering, but that doesn't mean your family can't go out to dinner.

Now that Jack is eating us out of house and home, my husband and I have been searching for good, local restaurants that offer free kids menus. Here is a list I've gathered, some from my own experience and some from word of mouth. Please note- it's always best to call in advance to make sure that these offers still stand.

Bearno's: Their twitter feed says kids eat free on Monday and Tuesday nights. The Bearno's in the Highlands has kids eat free nights on Wednesdays.

Brownings (at Slugger Field):  Kids eat free on Mondays. I've never even been to this restaurant.

Four bars with specials for Louisville fantasy football leagues having last-minute drafts

Wi-Fi, beer and food specials are as important to a good draft as not picking a kicker before the last round
With just six days until the NFL season kicks off, many fantasy leagues are having their drafts this weekend. Clearly the best place to have your fantasy football draft is at work while you're on the clock. But if that's not possible, these local establishments offer items as essential to a good draft as getting a solid running back (Darren McFadden doesn't count) in the first two rounds: Wi-Fi, beer and specials. Call ahead first though to make sure these restaurants and bars can accommodate large groups--and that their Wi-Fi is working fine.
