United Nations Environmental Partnership marks Arbor Day celebration with tree giveaway April 3

On April 3, four Highlands neighborhood associations—Bonnycastle, Deer Park, Highlands-Douglass and Upper Highlands—are marking Kentucky Arbor Day along with individual donors and local businesses with the United Nations Environment “Billion Tree Campaign” Program, “Plant for the Planet.” The Kentucky Division of Forestry has pledged 2,000 native Kentucky bare-root seedlings for local residents to take home.

Reconnect with Mother Nature at Bernheim Forest this weekend!

Does this cold weather leave your family clamoring for a little of the Great Outdoors? Bernheim Forest has some excellent programs this weekend that will entertain adults and children. Both a nature-inspired story hour and program on winter trees will satiate the urge for a reconnection with Mother Nature.

Event: EcoKids: Be A Cool Reader

Date:  Saturday, January 30th, 1-4 pm

Place: Bernheim Forest Visitor Center 

Each hour from 1-3 pm, Bernheim naturalists are meeting at the Visitor Center to read a nature inspired book to children. The story hours serve as reminder to children of the importance of going outside, even on a cold day. The story hours are best for children in kindergarten through 3rd grade and all kids get a free nature-inspired bookmark. There is no cost for the story hour.

 

2008 marks Fifth Season of “Christmas Tree Lane” at Waterfront Park

The performance at retail is still up in the air for the Christmas season, but tree purveyors at Waterfront Park feel confident.
On November 28, the fifth annual “Christmas Tree Lane” will open for business and Louisvillians will enjoy a continuing tradition of purchasing their Christmas Trees downtown at Louisville Waterfront Park.   Local vendors Tommy Thompson and Gary Jecker look forward to another very successful year selling many varieties of trees, wreaths and other holiday greenery.  Both vendors anticipate that the time-honored tradition of the family tree will outshine concerns for a slow economy.   More families are expected to remain home this holiday season and holiday decorating will play an impor
