Most any game played in the Southeastern Conference, against Kentucky is a rivalry; in terms of the Big Blue Nation. In the words Coach Cal spoke at Midnight Madness this season, “You guys are crazy.” The Florida game will be the “War in Rupp” as the Gators are on the case with a 7 game winning streak with a big win over Vandy (73-65) at home this past Saturday. Kentucky will not be bullied, 23-1 overall, 9-0 in SEC play, and looking to increase the winning streak to 16.
Following another win for the Wildcats at home, Head Coach John Calipari was in a jovial mood as he talked about his team, "We were really good defensively. This was a hard game".
For last Saturday’s contest, where the Cats barely took down Tennessee, the officiating was the story of the day, although Kidd-Gilchrist’s double-double and Anthony Davis’ 18 points, as well as McBee’s McStache were honorable mentions in the media after the close win. Now that the Cats are back in Lexington, Coach Cal is looking forward to a new challenge, Arkansas.
Let's assume for a moment that the reason Kentucky is not playing UALR in in the YUM! Center is because Louisville is playing St. John's the same evening. The kicker here is that U of L will be in New York that night. Rick isn't quite ready to let Cal in his house, at least for now.
The first meeting between the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville men’s basketball teams resulted in a win for the Wildcats back in 1913 with a score of 34-10, bragging rights for UK fans on this one. The series, which gained momentum in the 1980’s after a 24 year lapse in meetings, now stands at 28-14; again, bragging rights for UK fans. Rick’s move to Louisville fueled the fire and for Kentucky, it became even more important to win against Louisville.
After falling from the ranks of the unbeaten in Wednesday’s 71-68 loss to Georgetown, Rick Pitino said his team would not hold a press conference prior to Saturday’s matchup against Kentucky. From a coaching standpoint, it’s probably a wise move to not put your players through another round of questioning and instead have get it over with while still steaming about their first loss of the season.
Before the last cookie is eaten, the last drop of egg nog drank, or the last gift unwrapped this holiday season, people are asking, “What are you doing New Year’s Eve?” With the Christmas rush, it’s easy to be left scampering for an answer. Fret no more! I’ve compiled a list of various options to ring in the new year, whether you’re looking for a big bash or a quiet affair.
