Update: Courier-Journal lays off 50 employees [News]

Sources are telling Louisville.com that 50 employees have been laid off at the Louisville Courier Journal, in what seems to be a nationwide two percent staff reduction by the Courier's parent company Gannett.

Sources are telling Louisville.com that 36 employees have been laid off at the Louisville Courier Journal, in what seems to be a nationwide two percent staff reduction by the Courier's parent company Gannett.

Sources tell Louisville.com that some of the cuts are coming from the the weekly Velocity publication and Neighborhoods section. At this point, our sources have told us that among those laid off were:

And when it does, Velocity will have a six-part series on how to use it.

Like seemingly half the people in Kentucky, Facebook Places does not work.

The new feature, released just last night, is supposed to allow users to check in at a venue via their mobile phone, alerting their friends to their whereabouts. (You know, the same feature Foursquare, Gowalla, Loopt, Whrrl, Brightkite and Yelp already offer.)

Only Louisville-area Facebook users trying to check in receive a message, "This feature will be available in your region soon."

And every Wednesday, 10 minutes later, after scanning the magazine looking for something worth reading, I end up throwing it in the recycling bin, washing my hands and wondering why I bother.
