Needless to say, it's been a difficult second half for the Louisville Bats. With injuries mounting in Cincinnati, that spells a call for help from Louisville. The Bats have lost the likes of Zack Cozart, Todd Frazier, Dontrelle Willis, Dave Sappelt, Yonder Alonso and others off and on to the Reds. While we love to see our Bats move on to the Big Leagues, it's tough watching the struggles that tend to ensue.
The mysterious and beautiful art of belly dance has caught the attention of men and women in the west since the early 19th century, and this Saturday Louisville women have the chance to learn its basics.
Yoga on Baxter (1611 Eastern Parkway) is offering a crash course in belly dance workshop Saturday, March 5, from 2-4 p.m. No prior experience is necessary; the class is perfect for women of any shape, age, and size. Participants should bring a scarf to tie on the hips and $25.00 for the cost of the workshop.
If there was anything good about the 70‘s,80’s and 90’s, it was the birth of the mass availability of video games (Underoos, Farrah Fawcett hair and Schoolhouse Rock also deserve mention). I, myself, spent many hours in the quest to defeat Ms. Pac man, Donkey Kong and Pitfall, to name a few. I missed out on most of the video game systems and games the first time around because my dad was cheap (sorry Dad) and I was, and still am, a book worm.
As the NBA embarks on their annual all star game this weekend, it’s about time I take a look at all the hoop games that’ll be happening in L.A. this year. This is the first time the All Star game event and its festivities have been in southern California since the classic game back in 1992, and this year again looks like it won’t disappoint. Granted, maybe the whole weekend is basketball without defense, but that doesn’t mean it’s not fun. Plus, we have to pull for the local folks that’ll be taking the court.
Most of you have probably read Natalie Babbitt’s Tuck Everlasting, a pre-teen novel (before they were overrun with pouting vampires) that gently reveals mortality, its pains and its pleasures. In the novel, heroine Whitney must decide whether or not to join the Tuck clan, which is stuck in perpetual life after haphazardly drinking from the fountain of youth.
Of modern luxuries, music was one of the first to become digital, and with that major benefits have been reaped. No longer must we purchase lame albums with one decent track, and everyone loves portable mp3 players. However, with the digitization of music, something has arguably been lost. Have no fear, you can find it at the Magnolia Bar the last Fridays of the month.
While some congressmen have recently proposed cutting funds to such government departments as the Department of Education and various ones involved with art, the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft will be profiling its appreciation for art education by exhibiting The Annual Scholastic Gold Key Awards Show, featuring over 200 award-winning works by local students.
The recent break from winter, although rainy, was a welcome change, but with the approaching snow storm it’s safe to say that winter hasn’t totally left us, yet. While I’m prone to hole up inside and complain about the cold stuff, there is a great opportunity to enjoy the weather while it lasts, and it’s less than a tank of gas away.
