72°F12:25 AM Well, there is no doubt that I’m on board with Vessel for the long haul. Having finally seen their magic in action, I can honestly say they are amazing. In the show’s preview write-up, Daniel Botula promised ‘Funktified Folk’ and what Vessel collectively delivered turned out to include seamless arrangements, phenomenal individ
It’s been roughly 8 years since I’ve been in Louisville for the full effect of the weeks of Derby debauchery, but the kickoff of ‘Waterfront Wednesdays’ sits atop my list of ways to really get things started. Tonight, may just fill that void in one fell swoop. Louisville’s own The Tunesmiths, Sugar and the Hi-Lows, and Chicago’s soul shaking JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound pack the bill with regional rock/soul/bluesy pumped-up goodness from start to finish.
Hopefully the ninety-degree weather is behind us; I welcome the crisp air of fall with open arms. But saying goodbye to the sweltering, hazy sky also means saying goodbye to the free outdoor music that WFPK's Waterfront Wednesdays bring to Louisville.
After a day of threatening storms, the sun made its appearance just long enough to welcome Tift Merritt to the stage with its last rays (following Robert Francis and the band Dawes) for WFPK's Waterfront Wednesday concert. Dressed for the humidity in a white blouse and hot pants, Tift and her band energized a large crowd, including several clusters of folks lounging on the decks of their boats nearby.
North Carolina native Tift Merritt comes to town for July's WFPK Waterfront Wednesday on July 28 at Waterfront Park. She just released her fourth studio album, See You on the Moon, in June, working with a new producer, Tucker Martine, who has also worked with Spoon and The Decemberists, among others.
After flirting with triple digits for way too long, the weather has finally broken just in time for another Waterfront Wednesday.
If you ask me, Waterfront Wednesday is an extra special gift to people who work downtown but live on the Indiana side of the river. Let everyone else battle traffic across the bridge. You can walk from your office down to the great lawn, nosh on some fair food and listen to free live music until rush hour is over.
