Moses and a demon walk into a bar [Lville Beer]

Can an evil beer be as good as a holy beer?

Today's beer review is a tale of good versus evil in which both turned out to be innately good.  Earlier in the week a friend and I had picked up a growler of Great Lakes Holy Moses White Ale and then last night, the day I typically drink my review beer, I grabbed a bottle of Avery Brewing White Rascal White Ale out of the fridge.  The devilish white figure on the label signaled to me that it was going to be a br

Wine Rack's August wine of the month: Domaine De Nizas Rose 2009 [Crescent Hill]

The hot weather isn't gone for good. Here's a wine to get you through the rest of summer.
This (relative) break in the weather isn't tricking me. I just know humidity is lurking around the corner. That's why John Johnson, who owns the Wine Rack (2632 Frankfort Ave.), has suggested a bottle of Domaine De Nizas Rose 2009 ($15.99), with its "raspberry and strawberry aromas, accented by soft floral notes." It's from the south of France, and it sounds refreshing. Here, listen to Johnson describe it: "On the palate, the red fruits burst through and are enhanced by subtle spices," he says.

Wine Rack's July wine of the month: New Zealand's Seifried riesling [Crescent Hill]

The only sure way to beat the heat: Drinking

It's a billion degrees outside, and all I want to do is drink. That's where John Johnson, the owner of the Wine Rack (2632 Frankfort Ave.), comes in. To help beat the heat, Johnson suggests a 2007 riesling from New Zealand. He says that in 1973, Hermann Seifried was the first to plant vineyards in that country's Nelson region, near Marlborough on the southern island's northern tip.

Wine Rack's Derby wine of the month [Kentucky Derby]

Put down the mint julep for a second and give this Italian white wine a shot

Wine Rack's wine of the month: Gérard Bertrand's Cremant de Limoux Brut Rose

The Wine Rack's owner suggests a bottle that should get your valentine in the mood.

2010's first F.A.T. Friday Trolley Hop

The store East Meets West has a postcard with interesting tie to the 2008 Summer Olympics

During the year's first F.A.T. Friday trolley hop tonight, the restaurant It's All Greek to Me is offering bellydancing lessons (sexy), Kaviar Forge and Gallery is conducting forge tours (toasty) and the Wine Rack has vino to pair with chili (tasty).
