67°F4:55 AM The saying “Everything tastes better with bacon” was put to the test as Hammerheads Restaurant was ultimately crowned the “Bacon King” for the second consecutive year. The 2012 Bacon Ball hosted by the Louisville Visual Art Association promised a “mixed media culinary delight night of booty shakin’, art making bacon ball extravaganza” and they spent the evening gettin' piggy with it.
If you were one of the unfortunate ones that missed WBVBs open for THE Ralph Stanley, then tonight is your night for retribution. The lads will crush Zanzabar tonight in another addition of Hunter Embry’s ‘Vintage Showcase’. For someone that has never experienced these Boys, tonight is your chance. Sure, Churchill Downs opens today, night racing is on, you don’t reckon it’ll hail on ya…fair…but you do have an option that’ll rock your dome safe and dry.
In a recent interview with Louisville.com, Diego Garcia talks about returning to Louisville as, “returning to the scene of the crime”. The crime, of course being his virgin experience in the Derby City. For months, Diego has looked forward to returning here, and seeing the friends he made the first time around.
I was a little concerned for British rock band Fanfarlo on Thursday night. I knew they might have to compete with the much-anticipated Louisville v. Michigan State game, but I needn't have worried. With impeccable timing, the band was just setting up as Louisville put the final touches on its impressive win and a chant of C-A-R-D-S broke out from the outside patio. Now, everyone was ready for music.
British band Fanfarlo returns to Louisville's Zanzabar on Thursday, March 22, touring behind their recent release, Rooms Filled with Light, which follows up their debut effort from 2009, Reservoir. Led by Simon Balthazar, the young quintet made a positive impact on critics and fans alike with an accomplished first album, and their second outing is no sophomore slump.
Welcome to Louisville Murray State, Colorado State, Marquette, Connecticut, Iowa State, Kentucky, and Mississippi Valley State or Western Kentucky and BYU or Iona fans—
Zanzabar is a hip little bar famous for bringing well known musicians to Louisville while providing a fun atmosphere to take in a night of music. When the news Diego Garcia hit the calendar, his fans scrambled to get tickets. The night promised fun and good music for all in attendance.
As Sonoi, special guests of White Rabbits, made their way to the stage and people crowded around, it was clear this show was going to be good. Zanzabar, packed to the hilt, welcomed the well know Indie Rock artists to Louisville. Familiar faces to the Louisville music scene were thrilled the guys were in town.
Born in Michigan, raised in Florida, and now living in New York City, Diego Garcia is well traveled and well versed in music. Diego found his love at age 14 when he learned classical guitar. Shortly after graduating from Brown University, Garcia left for NYC to pursue his love of music. As a member of the now broken band, Elefant, Garcia helped pen many of the songs on their three full length albums.
Speaking from personal experience, The California Guitar Trio (CGT) is as good as they were the last time I saw them, at Glassworks and will be the next time I see them and I will see them. Zanzabar hosted the CGT and Sandpaper Dolls for a super duper good time. The house was lying in wait for these gents to take the stage following a fantastic a capella set by The Sandpaper Dolls. The Dolls warmed up the crowd with smooth voices in harmony and could be heard from the front of the house.
