2009 Kentuckiana Fly Fishing Show Presented by Derby City Fly Fishers

The Derby City Fly Fishers will host the Kentuckiana Fly Fishing Show on Sat., Jan. 31, 2009, 9:00a.m.-5:00p.m. at the Holiday Inn Airport South located at 2715 Fern Valley Road. The show will include over 80 exhibits, educational seminars, and is expected to draw over 1000 men, women, and children from a vast majority of the eastern United States.

Come to downtown on Friday, November 28th for the 28th annual ”Light Up Louisville” celebration!

Beginning at 3 pm on November 28th with food, beverages and craft booths, city officials welcome you to be a part of the lighting of downtown for the holiday season… “Light Up Louisville!”

This will be the 28th year of the lighting ceremony as the city we know will be converted into a holiday focal point, filled with amazing light shows, fireworks and musical adaptations. This family-friendly event is free to everyone, as over 75,000 residents are expected to join in on the annual day after Thanksgiving celebration. The festivities take place at Jefferson Square Park.

Forgotten Treasures: 19th and Early 20th Century Nature Study Books

Less than one hundred years ago, the notion that an educated person should have a basic acquaintance with the natural world was widely held and practiced. The nature study movement of that period inspired a wealth of books that still remain essential to “nature literacy” today. Natural Areas Weed Police

Wildlife depends on Bernheim’s native forest, grassland and wetland habitats for food and shelter. Invasive plants spread easily into these native plant communities and into our gardens and break the unique bond that plant communities and wildlife share. Bernheim is taking control of the noxious plants that are invading the natural forest and arboretum, and we need your help. Join an elite group of heroic weed wizards that participate in our Weed Police workdays and help Bernheim’s biologists and horticulturists conserve and restore healthy plant communities by removing invasive plants.
