A twenty-foot-tall, bright yellow rubber duck flew into town this week to invite Louisvillians to Harbor House of Louisville’s signature fundraising event, the 12th Annual Ken-Ducky Derby. The Ken-Ducky Derby festival, taking place on September 26 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and will include raffles, games, face painting, food and music by Louisville favorite The Monarchs. At 4 p.m., over 40,000 rubber ducks will splash down into the Ohio River and race to the finish line.

Quacky the duck remains perched on the Waterfront Development building thanks to Ignite Louisville’s Team One, IGNITE! From the Leadership Louisville Center and the Waterfront Development Corporation. “I have wanted to have this big duck in Louisville for years,” Harbor House CEO, Maria Smith said. “It is going to make a big difference for Harbor House and really light the way for people with disabilities."

With 23,000 ducks adopted last year, Harbor House is hoping Quacky’s presence will help create a record number of adopted ducks this year. Ducks are available for adoption for $5 at local vendors like Krispy Kreme, Starbucks, Papa John’s, Republic Bank, L&N Credit Union and NuYale Cleaners. Adopters will be entered to win a variety of prizes, including the Grand Prize- a 2015 Honda Fit from Sam Swope.

Merril Lynch will be the “Million Dollar Duck” sponsor for this year’s festival. If your adopted duck comes in third place and is a pre-selected “Million Dollar Duck” you will win $1,000,000.

Harbor House of Louisville offers programs and support to adults with physical and developmental disabilities in the Louisville community. In addition to offering day services such as gardening and cooking classes, Harbor House also offers employment services and community programs.
