It’s the time of year the realization that summer is here hits home, of course we know that since it is Memorial Day weekend. Being as it is Memorial Day weekend and we are in Louisville, that means one thing for certain, it’s time for Abbey Road on the River.  Since 2005, Beatles inspired bands crossed rivers and oceans in search of Louisville, to be a part of this annual festival that allows enthusiasts to let their inner Beatle show.

Growing every year, Abbey Road on the River strives to bring friends, families, and foes together to celebrate those four lads from Liverpool.  Abbey Road on the River is the brainchild of current producer and only full time employee of Abbey Road on the River, Gary Jacob.  Gary took a few moments to talk to about the festival and the very essence he hopes to convey to fans.

Through all the challenges of producing a festival, Gary managed to maintain the focus on The Beatles and the contributions John, Paul, George, and Ringo gave to their generation.  Gary said, “I knew we had something special the first year”, as he talked about the first event held in Cleveland, Ohio.  “We booked 20 bands including a George [Harrison] tribute, complete with a gospel choir for My Sweet Lord”, Gary commented.

More than 60 bands are set to converge on Louisville and play on more than 8 stages, in support of Abbey Road on the River, meaning no matter if one likes all Beatles’ albums, or just a certain time period, one will find comfort, surrounded by other aficionados.  Fans of Paul’s work with Wings would be wise to check out WingsBand , while John’s fans could stand to listen to Drew Harrison.  If one would like to see the Anthology, Brit Beat is your best bet, complete with costumes.  Abbey Road on the River so loves the Beatles that a Saturday parade in honor of Yellow Submarine is planned.

Abbey Road is the largest Beatles inspired festival in the world and brings generations together in true Beatles fashion.  Tickets to the event are available at the door, which is located on the Belvedere just west of the Galt House Hotel.  As we follow the sun to Abbey Road, be sure to remember the sun screen, ear plugs, and comfy shoes for fun in the sun.  Music and festivities will take place outdoors, under covered tents, and inside the Galt House Hotel.

Complete details are available at, including festival times.
