We have come full circle.  As a collective people, Modern Man has done a fine job disassembling the concept of “home” so popular to the identities of older generations.  As the world shrinks in size and scope in the bright eye of the technological beast of our era, human beings find themselves floating in a murky – and seemingly endless – limbo of dislocation.  What is “home base”?  We are nomads once more; roaming peoples following the herds ever higher into the mystic mountains as we chase both material and psychological personal ownership.  Mine is a generation forever circling like a cat in a chair, finally curling up in some awkward sleep as we saunter carefully towards a tentative and befuddling middle age.  It is in this vein of nomadic enterprise that acclaimed novelist, Tania James, turns the focus of her latest release, Aerogrammes: and Other Stories…  Join her at Carmichael’s Bookstore this coming Wednesday, May 30th as she presents the collection.

The author of 2010’s nationally-lauded novel, Atlas of Unknowns, Tania James has now released a second book, Aerogrammes, a new volume of short fiction exploring a generation of young men and women caught in the dividing line of life.  Set in various global backdrops ranging from London and Sierra Leone to the American Midwest, James’ collection seeks to draw readers into a snapshot of dislocation, yearning and human connection experienced in a wide array of modern cultures.  A native Louisvillian, James is now a nationally-celebrated writer, with additional fiction published in the pages of Boston Review, Granta, One Story, A Public Space, The Kenyon Review as well as The New York Times.

Wander your nomadic soul to Frankfort Avenue and join James at Carmichael’s Bookstore for a special presentation and reading of Aerogrammes.  Copies of the book are currently available for sale at both stores for $24.00 in hardcover, $15.00 in paperback and $11.99 on Google ebook.  No matter how world-weary your heart may be, you can always find grounding in a good book.

Carmichael’s Bookstore has two area locations: 1295 Bardstown Road and 2720 Frankfort Avenue.  For more information about Tania James, visit the event page or call the Frankfort Avenue store at (502) 896-6950.
