It’s the dream of animal lovers alike to take in a cat or dog to a good home, but sometimes the cost of these adoptions can be prohibitive even for the most ardent would-be pet-parents--and considering the number of animals without a home in the Louisville area, that’s truly a shame.

At a special adoption event that ran from Saturday June 28th to this Thursday July 3rd, however, adorable dogs and cats of all ages and breeds are going to good homes for a special price of only four dollars. The result of a team-up between the Kentucky Humane Society and Metro Animal Services, this event ran in honor of the Fourth of July this coming weekend.

Typically the Kentucky Humane Society’s largest adoption event--when the organization’s animal count is at its peak--the event resulted in a surge of adoptions. Both the special price and the appearance of social media cat extraordinaire Lil’ Bub, who has helped raise over $100,000 for animals in need across the country, attracted animal lovers from all over.

Lil’ Bub, a runt of the litter found in an Indiana shed, is herself an adopted cat. Lil’ Bub’s owner, hoping to raise $50,000 in the month of June for his organization in support of animals with special needs, has already succeeded his goal by more than $4,000, making the event an unprecedented success.
