Abbey Road on the River’s first full day was a huge success! Among so many others, I got to hear my three favorite Abbey Road on the River bands perform today – The Jukebox, The Newbees, and BritBeat.

The Jukebox performed the Beatles 1 album. The set list contained, in order, all 27 Beatles songs that were #1 hits.  From the early days of “Love Me Do” to the “Long and Winding Road” and everything in between, this album serves as a Beatles timeline. As always, the Jukebox performed beautifully. Their craft has been well perfected to provide an amazing Beatles experience for every fan. Louisville local, Mark Beyer played the keyboard with the band. With his unmatched skill, he is able to provide not just piano but also sound effects and many other instruments.

The Newbees performed many Beatles favorites in their show titled “All Together Now.” The band describes this show as “The Beatles Greatest” saying, “we twist and shout our way through each iconic period showcasing The Bealtles’ progression from a simple three-chord band to the legendary studio sessions of the latter years. This set features some of the best dance and sing-a-long songs ever.” Singer/guitarist Misty Perholtz totally rocked “Oh! Darling” with a very Janis Joplin feel while Bassist Alex Lusht provided a perfectly gritty sound on “Come Together.” This band is truly the epitome of a rock and roll band.

BritBeat provided a fun, light-hearted performance of early Beatles’ songs complete with vintage instruments, costumes, and their very own Ed Sullivan to introduce them. Digging way back into the past, BritBeat didn’t just perform early Beatles hits. They also performed songs the Fab Four would’ve played in Liverpool’s infamous Cavern Club. BritBeat is always so much fun to watch. Even though I have most of their shows memorized after 9 years of attending AROTR, they always surprise me with new tunes or silly jokes.

Abbey Road on the River continues through Memorial Day weekend wrapping up on Monday night. For more information, visit www.arotr.com. Come join in the fab fun!
